Did my AIW 9800 die

So I came home one night to watch tv and when i went to run the tv program it kept coming up unable to run program so i tried installing the newest ati drivers and same problem. So I was planning on formating my computer anyway so i did that and when i formated it worked great the first time i turned it on then later that night went to turn it ton again and i got a window's error that said: "ATIMMC.ext has encountered a problem and needs to close." So i tried fixing the ati drivers and i reset my computer after installing them and this time windows wouldn't load (not even in safe mode). So i formated and this time i had the same problem with windows not loading after i installed the ATI mutli media stuff. So this last time i went with old ati drivers and windows runs, but it wont run any of the tv stuff. And every time windows starts it says it has like 5 unknown divices that are connected to the aiw 9800. Should i send this in for rma if i can? i'm i doing something wrong? Any suggestions.

What version of Windows are you running? If you're running Win XP, maybe try Win 98, or vice versa. I wouldn't give up on your card just yet, until you've ruled out drivers / OS software first.

i'm running windows xp pro sp2. I dont have a copy of anyother operating systems. I was working fine for months before then i just came home one day to it being dead.

System information
Windows xp pro sp2
Shuttle SN41G2V2
AMD XP 2500+
512 DDR 333mhz
Pioneer A08 DVD burner

Looks like you need to use the ATI uninstaller (or better yet Drivercleaner pro) and clean your drivers. The 5 unknown devices are your WDM drivers for the multimedia functions.

Be sure you have the latest DirectX runtime(should be good w/SP2) and you need to install windows media "encoder" v9 before installing the MMC software suite or the TV won't work.

Make sure you read the installation tips and readme files for the drivers at ATI "first" so you have everything properly installed in the proper order. You should be good (yours is very typical installation issue)

So i tried using the Drivercleaner pro and the ati uninstall utility and now when i install it it does not come up with unknow devices, but the tv utility still wont work and now media player 10 crashes. So i uninstalled all the ati drivers again and went back to media player 9 but i dont know what to do to fix my problem.

If it was a sudden change one day and you didn't do anything drastic before...then it could be the card going defective.

The only thing I can recommend is a clean install. Once you get Win XP reinstalled, download and install the latest catalyst drivers and then install all of the MMC stuff. Don't install wmp 10 or anything else until you confirm that MMC is working. If it doesn't work after that, then there is a good chance there is a hardware issue.

Do you have Windows Media "ENCODER" 9 installed?
