Did Mushkin mess up or is it my board?

Got a pair of dual channel 512MB PC3200 Level One sticks from Mushkin as a present. They're replacing my really old PC2100s (2x256)

For some reason, when I installed both modules (dual channel setup), the BIOS reads it as 768MB total. I thought it was a bit odd so I pulled one out, one read at 512. Pulled that one out, put in the other one, it reads it at 256. Tried every slot there is, all reads it at 256.

Now, doesn't Mushkin actually test these two pairs before they ship them? The stickers on the heatspreader says 512 clearly on both modules.

Only worries I have is that it could be the board maybe? I've tried searching the threads for something like this and hopefully it's just a mistake that Mushkin made. I just wanted to make sure it's the RAM, not anything else.

Currently using Abit NFS-7 version 2.0 as the motherboard.

Please advise.

Do the sticks look identical?

Never heard of this b4. I'd contact the Mushkin tech support or start the RMA process.

Yep, they're identical... atleast on the outside. Heatspreaders are covering the DIMM so I can't tell exactly. *sigh* I guess I'll have to call Mushkin. I was looking forward to playing with a dual channel setup 🙁

Email/call mushkin. Their Customer support is awesome. Don't tell them it was a gift, just leave it as "its my ram". If it was purchased directly from them, they will send you the ram overnight so you have no downtime and then give you packaging so you can send back the bad stick. You might want to get as much info as you can from the original purchaser first. "Place of purchase, etc."

Thanks guys. The tech support guy I talked to said it might be that one of the banks in the stick isn't initializing. So they'll send me brand new dual kits. Not overnight though, unfortunately.

Mushkin has good customer service, I must say.

Thanks again guys.
