Did Luke kill his father?

Darth Vader had lung damage from falling in lava. The helmet/mask contained his respirator. I think Luke's pulling the helmet off for the final, touching father/son reconciliation scene is what actually killed Vader.

Vader/Anakin was already dying and knew it (mostly from the Emperor's lightning). He asked Luke to take the mask off so that he could see Luke's face with his own eyes before he died.

OP is no real Star Wars fan or he would already have known this. Maybe a movie with hobbitses is more it's speed. :p

Note to self: probably not a good idea to hang around lava

I don't care about that, as much as this:

So the force can save a guy who fell in lava but can't help a guy who what, got exhausted from a little over-exertion?

I see what you mean, just because Vader was going to die doesn't mean Luke didn't technically kill/euthanize him, as removing the helmet shortened Vader's life span. It's similar to killing your friend who has been bitten by a zombie before they turn.

But why should we care?

See this scene just wasn't realistic. People (and Gollums) are less dense than lava. Gollum wouldn't have sunk in the lava. He would have floated and skittered across the surface like a drop of water in a frying pan. :fearscream:

As for Vader if you've watched Robot Chicken Star Wars you'd know Vader died when he woke up on the funeral pier as Luke set him on fire. :fearscream:

Ok this was a disturbing topic. :frowning:
