I forgot to mention the 'Said Movie' is El Norte, which I haven't seen nor have I done any research about yet, as I'm leaving for work now, but I'll try to get an idea of the premise when I return. Thanks to all who have responded.

It's a decent movie about a couple of mexicans who sneak across the border. Nothing really great or edgy or anything like that, just a meh movie.

actually no its not...they are not even mexican they are from guatemala or el salvador i think...i dont see how that movie is supposed to change how they feel about hispanics..

should have shown 'mi familia' more enjoyable

if your not hispanic how could the word "beautiful ray of sunshine" offend you?

the same reason why the n-word offends non-blacks... it's an ugly word that reminds us that, unforunately, racism still exists. personally, i can't help but feel shame and contempt whenever i hear that word.

dont go near any high school in america then

ok let me rephrase that. the high school i go too you hear the word literally like every second

well, i went to high school in maryland, so i didn't really hear that word too often.

i went to hs in maryland too. i heard it enough. hell, i hear it around campus every so often too (UMD)

I think you were right to send him the email, but your tone is a bit too aggressive. You made a mistake to say you wanted to punch someone. Especially in a law enforcement class. It will be interesting to see if the prof deals with the situation.

Well the teacher did ask them to describe an entire race so of course there will be generalizations. To describe a race you really have to default to stereotypes because they are stereotypes for a reason, and that is, they describe common traits. Granted some of the slang used to describe these traits may be offensive, but they make a point, and the prof was just begging for it anyway.

The OP is an example of why people need to be less uppity in class when they in fact know NOTHING about the professor.

Don't bother going to the class or drop the class now. He gave you an F for the term already.

sounds fine to me, and i actually think your professor will appreciate the email. it shows at least one of his students has a brain.

It takes an excellent writer to use a quote like "I have a dream" and not sound like an idiot. You aren't even close. The letter would have sounded much better if you'd kept closer to your ability and not tried to write something profound.

if youre bitching about something like that, you should be a lot more profesional, and not say "hell" and bring up your itialian family because that has nothing to do it with it.
