I turned on my main machine and noticed a fan was really sounding weird, high then low. I thought to myself hopefully it will balance out or I will just reboot it. Then I started smelling some horrible stench, like burning plastic. It was still booting up and everything looked normal on the monitor but I yanked the power cord. I opened up the case and looked around for signs of the culprit and did not see anything. After letting it sit for a few minutes I restarted it and noticed a rapid clicking sound(One of the plugs from the power supply had worked its way loose and was under the HSF for the cpu) After I removed it it stopped making the clicking sound and all the seemed ok in the case(loud...have 2 case fans going with the fan on the HSF and the power supply), However I get no display what soever, plus holding down the power button does not shutdown the machine.
Since all the fans are working I'm thinking the CPU got fried(if this is the case I can replace it and use the same HSF?)
However, as far as I can tell the fan on the HSF was working the whole time and it would have been on less than 30 seconds before I yanked the cord(large heat sink delta fan, AS2)
