I just bought a new asus p8z68 and was about to install it, when i somehow managed to forgot to install the standoffs first..(yes i know. very stupid). i dont have cpu, ram and other stuff yet since im gonna buy it later on. I wanted to try the mainboard though, and plugged it in and a little green light at the bottom of the board was on. but the fans i connected wouldnt start). The fans will however start when i plug them in directly to the PSU.

Am i screwed?

If I remember right in most cases the board doesnt power up until there is a processor in the board, so it shouldnt be a problem.

It really sounds like it just hit a roadblock in the post sequence. I wouldn't sweat it unless it doesn't boot when fully assembled. The problem is that you may well not have an assembled box until after the return date for the motherboard. If you can scrounge enough parts to get a full post and browse bios I highly recommend it.

The board probably is still ok. I advise that if you know anyone who has assembled a pc before that you get them to help you with the install until you get more experience.

To avoid problems I always run off the system on my desk, spare ps with air cooling.
When the system is up and stable I then stick it in a case and add the wb.
You may need to jump out the two power switch pins if the mb doesnt have a start switch.
