I just bought all the stuff for my two older boys' (ages 7 and 9) first PC's. R5 2600 with upgraded cooler, B450, 16GB ram, 1TB SSD, GTX 1660 Super, and Asus VG278Q. Did I screw up by getting them TN panels? I would have bought the VG279Q's but couldn't find them in stock at a place I trust for easy returns. My biggest concern is they could be watching Spongebob while sitting on the floor and he could shift from yellow to purple or something due to the TN panel. Do you think a 7 and 9-year-old will care about having a TN panel? I feel perhaps I've committed an atrocity by purchasing TN panels.

TN panels generally suffer pretty bad from off-axis viewing angles, especially vertical. So if you're thinking they'll be watching frequently from a seated position on the floor to a desk height panel, then yeah, you might want to think about replacing it, because it wont look great.

That monitor looks like it can be angled down a decent amount. If the monitor is five feet off the ground it might be sketchy, but if it's on a kids desk angled down I'd think they'll be fine.

I've used basic TN panels for years, only recently picking up a (still cheap) IPS display.

I'll admit that the IPS display's colors are in a league of their own, but I've never watched anything on my TN panels that looked like absolute garbage because of viewing angles.

So long as you got a good deal on those TNs, your kids should be happy you didn't go out for a pack of smokes instead. Let em but their fancy 240hz OLED displays when they get real jobs.

$200+ for a 27" 1080p TN monitor?

That sounds like a bad deal.
Even if they were $100, better panels are also in that price range.

Here's just a few random ones:

1080p IPS 75Hz
24" $105 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CK4W58Y/
27" $140 https://www.costco.com/lg-27"-class-ips-1080p-fhd-monitor.product.100424393.html

1440p IPS 75Hz
24" $150 ($20 coupon) https://www.staples.com/lenovo-l24q...r-raven-black/product_24452404?akamai-feo=off
32" $180 https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/6838505/Lenovo-C32q-20-315-QHD-WLED/

Are you fking for real?

When I was that age, I would be happy with anything beyond BBC1, BBC2, ITV and C4 on the TV - a (probably) ~14" TV that I had to manually get up and push a button on the side of to change.

When we got a TV with a remote, it was the ritz. Never mind later getting satellite and broadband.

...and your worried about a TN panel!?!?

It's unlikely kids those ages will notice or care about colors shifting due to viewing angle.

But really, right now is a terrible time to buy anything, but especially computer components. Return them while you can and wait for prices and inventory to come back to reality.

Of course that's only my opinion as a super cheapskate who cringes at retail prices even during normal times. I cannot imagine paying current prices for a new monitor or anything else. Good luck to anyone who needs a PSU right now - ~$200 for a midrange 650w.

Montech has 80Plus Gold "Gamma II" 650W PSU for $69.99, and 750W for $79.99 @ Newegg. 2x 4+4 CPU power connectors, 4x 6+2 PCI-E connectors, 24-pin ATX, 6x SATA, 3x molex + floppy. Non-modular (!)..

Edit: All Jpn. caps, 5-year warranty, LLC+ DC-DC topology.

i find TONS of used psu's high end for 100-140$ platinum quality brand name. as far as monitors im REAAAAAAAAAAllly trying to avoid buying anything new until i get a new gfx card that is hdmi 2.1 and tv's and monitors have hdmi 2.1. i have seen a few 32" ips 1440p

with that said a 7 and 9 year old SHOULD be oK with anything. of course i never had a tv when i was younger, i had a green monitor for a commadore64 woho so fun. green gameboy, color is for fancy people.

as long as spongebob doesn't come out purple, or green, i honestly don't think your kids will care or notice.
They have such a short attention span, even dead pixils will go un noticed, however if spongebob comes out a funky shade of orange, or purple, then yeah, all hells will break loose.

However on my note, i think it would bother me more then my kids, so i would of been slightly urked about it.
But thats just me.
