Did I screw myself over?

Last night a couple friends picked me up in one of the parent's cars. After one of them was driving for a couple hours, I started to drive.
I only went about two blocks, when they said to stop for a minute because they needed to use one of the keys to open the glove box.
After sitting for about another minute, I see somone's car pull up behind me. I hear the all too familiar bloop sound so I know its a cop.
My friend's parent's had called about him taking the car out, and the police had recognized the plates.

I'm only 14, and I was sitting in the driver's seat(car was parked w/o keys in the ignition.
They assumed I had been driving(I had been for 2 glorious blocks), and I got a citation for driving w/o a license.
This might mean I have to wait until I am 18 to get my license.

I have yet to go to trial, so.... any suggestions so that I'll still be able to get my license would be great.

Good job. Have fun having mommy and daddy drive you and your date to the movies when you're 17.

So you admit that you were driving. And you admit that you would have kept driving if your friend hadn't needed to get something out of the glovebox.

Open and shut case, you're waiting until you're 18 to get your license. I rather hope that the police somehow find this thread so they can use it as evidence.

Why don't you use as your defense that you weren't driving, the car was just sitting in park when they gave you the ticket. Did the police see you in the driver seat with the keys in the ignition and you pushing on the gas pedal?

He admitted that the only reason he stopped driving was because his friend wanted to get something out of the glove-box and needed the key to unlock it. So if his friend hadn't done that he would have driven for longer. I don't care if it's two blocks or two feet, it's illegal and he's a damn fool for doing it.

As for your situtation... yeah. A guy I know had the same thing happen to him. Well almost the same. He just took his parents car and then crashed it. It wasnt totaled or anything, he just ran into someones mailbox and into some flowers or something, the car got stuck. Anyways, he had a tough time getting a date cause they always had to drive. Now, he did find this girl who really liked him and didnt mind waiting, she just drove his sorry ass around. Sucks to be you.

yeah that's it, lets not punish people for crimes they commit... suppose he didn't get caught, and in the next 2 blocks he killed your mom or dad or girlfriend, or did a hit and run on your car, but he didn't get caught, so that's ok..

Well just to add a bit...

It was about 3am, in a very quiet place, and nobody was at a big risk. The police didn't even seem that concerned about it.
I never admited that i would have kept driving... I was about 3 blocks from home and about to go there.
