Did I really do bad on this assignment?

I'm taking 15 credits this semester and everything is going good except one class, this class is American History. 25% of the grade comes from doing 3 assignments, the other is from the exams. I turned in the first of one of these assignments last week and got it back graded today.

here is the link to pics

Here's what you see on the link:

The article I'm suppose to read
A guide with a format to follow
Questions to answer
Final graded paper

I spent a decent amount of time on this and the only thing that I really messed up on was the heading. I did that in a rush last minute and put a date instead of a Document #. But I got 3 points taken off, it turns out that I was suppose to put the W.C. thing there too.. ok 3 points no big deal. But I got a 58%, an F.

I calmly talked to the teacher after class and questioned her reasons for grading me off, she gave me pure bullshit answers. When I tried to reason with her about the answers she just shut me up with "That's not what I wanted". I bit the bullet told her "I'd work on it" and left. There was absolutely no explanation as to why my answers were bad or any help at all. I never got an attitude or anything, but I am pissed. I pay 100% of the OUT OF STATE price for this class and it's the middle of the semester. I cant get out or anything and I've already wasted the time. There is 3 total assignments and 2 best grades are used at the end. I can let this one slide, but I have no idea why my answers were so bad. If anyone cares to critique/give advice please do, I really need other's opinions on this.

your teacher is clearly an imbecile. did she take off 3 points because you didn't type "WC" in front of your word count, etc.?

It's simple man. You didn't know what she expected.

You see where she put "Examples?". Well from the instructions, I would've answered everything the way you did. BUT you can tell she's anal and wants long, drawn out explantions and reasoning for what you write. So just do that in the future.

Lesson learned.

I would look at the paper of someone that made a good grade to see what they wrote...your answers were pretty short (but to the point sometimes), so maybe the prof just wanted more support. It doesn't look like you spent much time on the assignment anyways.

It clearly states that if they don't follow the format they will be docked for it. (number 9)

damn, is it a technical writing class or a History class.

WTF kind of assignment is that. Im glad that the history classes that i had to take were very laid back.

instructor: here read this and write me a 3 page summary about what it is about... easy stuff.

May'be she found out about the incident with you, her sister, an El Camino, and a bottle of pancake syrup in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. I'd be mad too.

3 points off for putting the date instead of Document # (she didnt want the date at all) and yes because i missed the WC thing.

I guess you'll try harder next time, huh?
I'm not crying here, I'm trying to figure out what I got graded off for so much.

She did inform me that since the document was short it was "tricky". The only trick I see is that she used the fact that's there's 2 brief articles in the one article. I focused on the entire thing as a whole, and I guess she took off some stuff for that.

jesus chris ... that is a college assignment?!? since when do colleges give checklists of stuff that is understood since like 5th grade lol? this assignment has the design of something i might have seen back in 5th grade.

With most prof's, you can't write ten answers on one page and expect an A. I mean dude, the instructions on how to write the stupid thing were longer then that.

hahah, I was no bookworm in college but I would've known better then that. Are you a freshman?

yea dude ... you are in college, not middle school. your answers are like 10 words each. welcome to college, enjoy your next 6 years there 😛

EDIT: for example, your answer about the audiences who the article is directed torwards. you give absolutely no reason why you think who you did. i would flunk you too. that is like answering a calculus problem by giving just the answer, showing no work.

I am a freshman, and this is a community college that I'm just getting my general crap in. Every other class is simple and to the point. The class as a whole is simple, read book, get lecture, take notes, take random quiz, pass exam. I should also mention that she clearly stated to keep it short. She did warn that long drawn out answers will be graded off as well. But then I get a "too brief" on my longest one.

EDIT: for example, your answer about the audiences who the article is directed torwards. you give absolutely no reason why you think who you did. i would flunk you too. that is like answering a calculus problem by giving just the answer, showing no work.
It is stated in the italic text at the begining of the article that historians and scholars read these things and try to figure out who's fault it is. So I based my answer off that.

I think you misunderstood the questions.

I also think your prof misworded the questions.

When the question refers to the document, it does not refer to the document as a whole but rather the two opposing historical documents inside.

Its intuitively obvious that its meant for scholars. Thats not what the prof was asking for. She means who was the intended audience for the american document and who was the audience for the british document.

I sense this assignment was testing one's ability to follow directions.

5.

I. The document was created by Queen Elizabeth(correct)
I. <edit>
I. <edit>
I. The document was written by Queen Elizabeth(incorrect)

Why is the second one incorrect? Kinda lame.

But your answers were somewhat weak. They didn't expand on anything. namely number 4.

Get out of CC and get into a real university. Then you won't get cheesy assignments, but instead you'll get 2 midterms and a final that count for your entire grade. Thus, no worries about any misunderstandings. You'll just need to ask the prof for previous year's tests, if they're not already provided for you, so that you can get a general sense of the types of questions asked, and then you'll need to study.

Then her questions are incredibly counter-intuitive. She should have pluralized the documents in her questions if that was the case. I would have assumed the same as the OP and written my answers as if they related to the document as one whole piece as opposed to two seperate pieces.

OP, your prof is anal, you're just gonna have to deal.

and lastly (my bit of anal-ness): "Did I really do bad on this assignment?" should be written as "Did I really do poorly on this assignment?". 😛

Yes, based solely on this, I can tell your prof is a retard.

Its happened to me before, not knowing exactly what the teacher wants. Next time just write as much as you can.
