Did I phuck up my hard drive?

Soon as I walked in the door after picking it up from the Post Office I dropped it on the floor (actually sort of threw it on the floor).

Are chances good that I caused damage?

If so I might have to RMA this thing.

Seems to be working fine at the moment but I'm worried about the future after I put a few gigs data I really want on it.

It's a Seagate.

I like Seagates. But the fact that you threw it down, I don't know. Was it in it's original packaging or was it the bare drive dropped on carpet?

I didn't even open the box. It was in plastic case that was in a box that itself was in another box that it was shipped in.

If that makes sense.

They usually don't let you RMA drives because of what might happen to them in the future.
Use it and be happy 😀

Like Blain stated you can't RMA something that's not broke and more then likely it got handled alot rougher getting to the Post Office before it was in your hands anyways.

Actually I should have said return it instead of RMA it.

Sorry, but I've grown accustom to the AT slang around here. I'll try and be more pacific next time. Or maybe I can just PM you to axe what the correct verbiage would be. 😛

Since you said it was a Seagate brand drive and you seem to have bought it new, I would say the plastic "case" you are refering to is SeaShell. It is suppose to be able to sustain many G forces (with or without SeaShell), so you should be just fine.
