Did I overreact by calling the police for this?

I had to go to my parents' house to drop something off and as I was driving down their street all of a sudden I got hit in the eye with a laser beam. It took me a second to realize what happened, but I've caught a laser in the eye once or twice before, so I knew pretty quickly what happened. Apparently somebody was outside of their house either intentionally or accidently hitting cars on the street with it. I could see the glow of the laser as I got a little further down the road. I slowed down right as I drove past the house thinking they would realize what happened and maybe stop it. On the way back I drove slow again to see if they were still there and they were. Now to me, hitting passing cars with a laser is a good way to cause an accident, so I called the police and told them what happened, and that I didn't want to file a complaint or anything, but maybe they should just send somebody by to tell this person to knock it off. Should I have done that or just let it go?

Good choice, for all you know, you just saved a life.

I probably would have looked around a little more and tried to see if I could tell which house it came from but other than that, I would have done the same.

Go get a beater then crash into that house, blame it on the laser and sue them

I think you did the right thing. If you had filed a complaint I would have said you over reacted but it is definitely a hazard to do such a thing.

fire back at the laser and claim you thought you were being targeted by a sniper and trying to protect our country :)

Call the cops, file a complaint, bitch out the parents. Do all you can to make the kid's life miserable. Someone could have gotten killed.

Hell no. I think I would have reacted even more strongly. I would have insisted on filing a complaint and having it investigated. That's very dangerous.

yes, what the heck would cops do even if u did file the complain. Even if you were able to identify him cops have to witness this crim taking place as its infraction

I say go back there with a laser attached to something more than a little pen, and see quick their little hijinks last. Im all down for fun with laser pointers, but I draw the line well before moving cars. Geez.

You don't draw the line at cats, though, do you?

Dumb cat + slick floor + laser pointer = hours of fun :D

Long as you don't shine it in the cat's eyes and you make sure the cat doesn't get over excited... my cat if it sees a laser pointer it runs around and starts panting and looks like its gonna die... I stopped playing with it with a laser pointer.

I would have gone back with a 9 and taken a few warning shots... "No officer, I thought "they" were coming after me and those were the laser sights as they aimed at me"

LOL, nah Id say cats are fair game. Havent tried that one yet, but now youve got me interested. We used to love freaking people out in our dorm room cause we all had balconies, and if youre on the third floor and youre on the second, they have no idea where its coming from. That never, ever got old. :D
