Did I miss something? Are we supposed to wish someone a happy new year in the plural?

I just got 4 text messages from different people wishing me "Happy New Years". Did I miss the grammar meeting, are we supposed to wish in the plural now?

Your poll is missing the correct answer:
"Yes. Thats how we have said it for a hundred years."

it should actually be New Years' Day.

The S denotes possession, ie: the day belongs to New Year.

Exactly, so the OP is correct

Years =/ Years'
