Did I miss an episode of SG1?

I was poking around the Sci-FI channel's website, when I started poking around the character bio's.

I thought O'neill was a Brigadier General (one star), thats what he always wore on the show, yes?

Now, the SciFi website lists him as a Major General, a two star general, same as Maj. Gen. Hammond.

Also, they refer to Landry and Hammond as Generals, which is still the proper term of address for a General, however, its inconstant. They refer to Jack and Sam by full ranks.

Now, in the pictures of Landry and Hammond, they are wearing two stars on their collars, the rank of Major General. Why?

... I think you've missed this entire season thus far.

Season 9? No, no, I think I am up to date. Seen 901, 902, and 903.

Then you missed the end of season 8. They promoted everyone, broke up SG1. (and some rank inconsistancies are okay every once in awhile, I caught them calling Shephard a major in the latest Atlantis ep.

there was never an episode where macgyver was promoted or the team was split up. You have to piece it together from all the flashbacks they do in the first few episodes of season 9.

That's what I get for not watching season 8 😛

No, I saw the end of Season 8 too, don't recall them promoting Jack again. He just put on 1 star at the beginning of season 8. General ranks don't exactly come that quick.

And that still doesn't explain in the inconsistancies with Landry and Hammon. Why use an abbreviated title with them, but full titles with the others?

I'm not entirely sure on the proper protocol, but USUALLY. You refer to a Lieutenant Colonel as "Colonel" in casual conversation. And any General as "General." I'm sure there is a time when you say Lieutenant Colonel or their full General rank. But you'd have to ask a member of the armed forces.

Uh, I am in the Armed Forces. 😛

Lt. Col. is a proper term of address for a Lt. Col, so is simply Col. The same applies to the general ranks. You can refer to a Brigadier General as a General when you address them.

But why refer to Maj. Gen. O'neill and Lt. Col. Carter, using their full ranks; then use simply General for Landry and Hammond. Why not call them by their full ranks, Major General?

N E R D S! !

btw it's implied he scored the new rank. Because apparently quite a few months passed between the end of season 8 and the beginning of season 9. But the most important part we should note is.... aww fvck it. When the hell are they going to bring back Amanda Tapping full time?! :|

I thought she was out of the first ~4 eps because of having a baby, and was then back for the rest of 9?

Not sure, but I hope Browder<sp> is still leading SG1 though, I thought he was awesome in Farscape.

Weel despite the fact that everything's changed, I think in a way it could be a good thing.
SG1 went for 8 seasons of the same stuff, mostly the same team, same enemy etc (always the Goa'uld in the background).
Now the whole dynamic has shifted, different leader, different focus, different enemy, different base setup, so *hopefully* it'll be almost like a new show, but also like the old show.
ie: fresh injection of stuff that keeps it interesting and different, but still keeps it being SG1.

heh, I wouldn't be suprised if they slowly brought the whole Farscape cast into SG. My bet's on that one all white alien chick from farscape coming...
