So Steam friends allows me to stalk my fellow ATOTer's in ways I never imagined. I can now monitor their financial transactions involving Steam and thus accumulate a more accurate picture of their liquidity. Other than using it for my own nefarious schemes, I get the feeling that I missed out on something when I see:

XXXX now owns Quake III Arena, Quake 4, Wolfenstein 3D, The Ultimate DOOM, Final DOOM, DOOM II: Hell on Earth, Quake, Quake II, Quake II: The Reckoning, Quake II: Ground Zero, Quake III: Team Arena, HeXen: Beyond Heretic, HeXen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel, Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Wolfenstein 3D: Spear of Destiny, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity, Quake Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon, DOOM 3, HeXen II, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, Master Levels for DOOM II, Commander Keen Complete Pack, Rogue Warrior, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion , Oblivion Game of the Year DLC, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, Brink, Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition, Fallout: New Vegas, Hunted: The Demon's Forge, GECK - New Vegas Edition, Fallout New Vegas: Dead Money, Fallout New Vegas: Honest Hearts, Fallout New Vegas Old World Blues.

I think I missed a sale.

There's a pre-order deal for dead island going on right now. It's actually at gmg though. $33 i think. On the fence because the last videos I saw of it were underwhelming.

Steam prices are ridiculous. If you want a deal, download games from amazon.com's download service. Its hassle free and you can log onto your account at any time in the future to download the game again if you have to reformat or something.

I'm serious - I got dead space 2 for something like 11 bucks and dragon age origins: awakening for 12. Witcher 2 is available for 39$, Rift is 29$.

Its SO MUCH cheaper than steam for everything.

I can't tell if you're serious :\

When people talk about Steam they're talking about the crazy sales that happen often. Not their regular price.

Can't tell either but now it reminds me to keep an eye out for Mass Effect 2 sales. When I was in Hong Kong, the retail price for ME2 on Steam was still full price so the past sales were no-buys for me.

I couldn't hold myself and bought ME2 direct from EA when they had it for sale a few months back for ~$13 or so, thinking I was going to play it right away.

It turns out I still haven't got the chance of playing it now, and probably will buy it again this holiday season just so I can get it on Steam :'(

Their regular prices are outrageous. Anyway, amazon is usually w/o exception way cheaper on just about everything....unless steam has a crazy sale going on..and even then amazon is close

I never pay more than $15 for a game on Steam, and I have a ton of popular games. You just have to check the sales every day, especially during summer and christmas sales.

I won't buy anything that's not on Steam (and I have an amazon prime account, spend ~$600 a month with amazon.) Pretty disappointing that they pulled Dragon Age 2 from the service. :(

Yeah, yeah. My friend got Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition -- which is the main game, Awakening, and all the DLC -- for 11 bucks in the recent summer sale. Steam's sales prices are hard to beat.

No, its not.
Its easier.
Its cheaper day-to-day, but their selection is relatively poor and they dont have awesome package deals like Steam. I've picked up 600 dollars worth of games for 80 bucks.
However, I think Amazon has a better ratio of demos to playable games than Steam. I wish Valve would make playable demos mandatory.

Does Amazon's game download service have any convenient features like Steam? One thing I do know about Amazon is that you can redownload music, unlike a certain competitor, but it takes a bit of poking around to find the screen from which you can do that. Do they have a convenient list of games for you to redownload?

Just curious. I use Origin and Steam, don't really want to add ANOTHER digital provider to have to keep track of, unless they are Steamworks games.

How does Amazon's drm work for games ?

The only DRM is the Amazon downloader software you have to use to download the purchase with. The game install package itself is yours to keep and install at your leisure. If I purchase games through Amazon.com, I normally add them into Steam to get the social features of Steam added to the non-Steam purchased game.

The ability to redownload music purchases is a new feature Amazon added in with their cloud services. You didn't used to be able to redownload digital music and movies.

Yeah, I need a 75% or better discount on a game for me to purchase it through Steam since I don't actually get to "own" anything. My only exception to this day is the Dawn of War 2 series of games. I buy those for at or close to full price every time because I really, really like them and Steam is required even with a retail copy.

Do you play on getting Battlefield 3? I hear you get to choose ME2 as a free game if you pre-order BF3 through Origin. Someone else probably has the details.

I haven't used Amazon's DD service, so I can't comment on it, but I can confirm that GreenManGaming is pretty awesome. They've had some awesome sales on newer games, even pre-orders (like Dead Island for $33 with special code).

Edit: Here's the promo code if you want Dead Island for $33: SUNNY-SAVER-20PEC

I'm pretty sure it still works.

It works. I used it on Deus Ex earlier ($34) since I missed the previous $28 sale due to personal indecisiveness. :p
