did I make a mistake?

Recently built a rig and bought a seagate ST1000DM003 1 tb internal hdd. Its all okay but lately I am feeling I should have gone with WD black. What do.you guys think? Black has more warranty than seagate.

You should be good. I have no problems with any of my hard drives. Seagate, WD and even Maxtors are still running fine in my systems.

Yeah it was cheaper than wd black plus its single platter and real fast. Only downside is 1 year warranty. Anyways its going okay

Most defective HDDs will fail within the first year, so that extra warranty probably won't matter (unless you're just that unlucky, of course).

Youll be good, I have a close to 7 year old maxtor with so many dead sectors it crashed HDtune 😛

I use it as a boot drive for my backup rig and it works fine. As long as you get a drive that has no known big issues (hitachi deathstar) youll be fine.

Seagate was #1 top company when it was just them. When Seagate and Maxtor hopped into bed with eachother then Maxtor makes all Seagate drives. Let me tell you

Reliability wise its way below a WD Black. Its gonna die soon one day sorry to say.

Ive logged 65 thousand hours on my WDC 120GB then I retired it. WD, you pay a bit more but get a better quality product. People really need to listen to me when I say Seagate/Maxtor is junk IMO. All left is WD and Samsung, thats it. If you get a external make sure it uses a Sammy drive or WD etc.. gl

Seagate makes Samsung hard drives.

These days, I prefer WD hard drives, but at one time all I bought were Seagates. I've had a few Seagates fail, mostly newer drives, but I still have plenty of Seagate 7200.10 and 7200.12 drives in service.
As most of the replies to the OP indicate, it's pretty much a numbers game; odds are your drive will be fine. You should always back up your data. If a drive fails, usually in the first year, try another brand.

OP, you'll be fine. You're just having buyers remorse and/or borrowing trouble. Infant mortality of all HDD's usually occur in the first few months. If you are unlucky, you will know before the one year warranty is up. I have a personal preference for WD but, unlike tweakboy, I do not pretend my personal experiences with computer hardware are anything but anecdotal. Just to balance things, I own a 80 GB Maxtor that still runs fine after 10 years.

Yes my friends I am saying worst case scenario.

Well so many times wd fails too in the first year. I agree if it has to fail it will. Seagate is single platter and is silent too. So I guess time will tell rest of the things.

If you have to ask that question then you already know the answer...

Usually if you ask a question, you ask it because you don't know the answer yet. If you did, you wouldn't be asking the question...

I'd be kicking myself too if I bought a hard drive with a 1 year warranty and then found out I could have spent $10 more for a drive with a 5 year warranty.

5x the warranty for $10 is a pretty big deal.

Why the buyer's remorse?
You knew about the warranty differences
You wanted a cheaper drive and you got one.
.

Personally, me and my friend have RMA'd segate drives over 4 times each.
So my experience with Segate isn't good. My friend went with Hitachi and I went with WD, and we both are happy with our drives which are now going into their 4th year...

It will depend on your luck. I feel I was unlucky with Seagate.
