Did I make a mistake? Ordered some R9 270X cards off of ebay (BB).

There's few left @ $119 on ebay.. According to his feedback, he sold quite a few already..

I don't know if I would patronize a listing that just blatantly ripped off the pictures and info from the BestBuy page.

Not to mention, I'm pretty certain that XFX would honor that card's warranty if you bought it from BestBuy through ebay. That guy "MarvinWho"? Not so likely.

And if he's got 2 available, and has sold 60% of them, that meant that he had five total.

Actually, yes. Going to swap my H81 boards for some Z97 with dual GPU slots. Have to keep my apt warm this winter...

And in comparison to my HIS 7950, that one clocks at 800Mhz, with no Boost. So given the clock differential, the 270X isn't all that much slower than it, it seems.

7950 overclocked should be quite a bit faster (~20%), but the main appeal here would be the extra gigabyte of frame buffer, imo.

Well, I figured since the R7 260X cards on ebay through BestBuy were apparently sold out, that I would spring for a pair of R9 270X cards. I already have a pair of 7950 HIS cards, that I got for the same price ($130 ea). So not quite as good a value there on the 270X. Both take two 6-pin PCI-E connectors for power, but the 7950 cards have 3GB VRAM. Problem is, I haven't found 7950 or R9 280 / 280X cards new for $130 again, and GPU prices appear to be creeping up.

The alternative, I suppose, for the same price would have been a GTX950. How does performance compare between an R9 270X and a GTX950? 960? 7950?

If you don't mind rebates Newegg has 280 for $140. Not quite your price target, but worth extra $10 over 270x.

Weird that the 270 requires a single six-pin connector but the 270x requires two? I overclock the heck out of the 270 and I've never had any issues..

Give me a few months (after christmas) and I might buy the 270x off of you?

So, what are R5 250X cards good for? Anything gaming-related? I picked them up, since I heard cbn talking them up. How do they compare to the HD4850? 8800GT? 750/750ti? (I'm guessing not as fast as the 750ti, since that's the R7 260X's dept.)

Edit: Apparently, the R7 250X is a re-badged 7770. That's not so bad, except this TH article lists it with GDDR5, and the XFX cards I'm getting listed DDR3 in the specs. Here's hoping that the specs are wrong!

DDR3 would significantly cripple the performance of the 250X, so if this comes to pass the GDDR5 version of the 250X would be the only one worth serious consideration.

Mixed reviews at Newegg for the DDR3 version. Still sells for $91, with a $20 rebate. So getting it for $60 is a pretty decent deal, I think.

Sounds possible. Once the warmer weather hits, I won't really be crunching on them anymore.
