Did I make a mistake flashing the TrueX 72x firmware?

Everything seems fine, it reads most of my stuff without a problem, but the thing is if I have it on my sercondary IDE, it will crash persistently while trying to read the CDs, but the problem goes away if I put it on primary slave. What could be the problem?

IF i recall correctly.

Theres been ALOT of problems flashing that drive. Its been posted here before. Just be glad you can even boot yoor PC up now. I would flash back to the old Firmware ASAP. Try doing a search on that drive to double check. Im useing the same drive but never flashed my drive because of the headacks Ive seen posted on flashing that dive!

Good Luck!

Oh no, that is the FIRST thing I did when I installed it, because I've been hearing about the improvements of flashing the firmware. Anyway, where can I find the original firmware? I believe it was 221, after flashing its now 226G.

You might want to double check somewere just to make sure I'm correct. I remember awhile back a guy had to take his drive to friends house and flash this CD-ROM back to the old version because he couldn't get his PC to boot up to flash it back. It would always boot up in the blue screen of death after he flashed it. But I cant remember if it was the 72X drive or not thats why im just saying becareful or check around. I never flashed my drive so Im thinking some people have been having problems. Unless they came out with a new firmware since then. Try Kenwoods site.

Hm... didnt have problems at all, the original firmware was 221, booted fine, didnt try any CDs, I just downloaded the new 226(which came out August 6th) and flashed it. Then I did some tests and all my CDs were read just fine. I just went to their web site and 226 is the only one they have for download, am I doomed?

LXI,

I think I mislead you. I did a search and it was a plextor drive the guy was having problms with after flashing. You could always try and flash it back anyways to see if you can get it to boot on your 2nd IDE cable. Are you sure your 2nd IDE controller works propery?

Again Sorry :)

I dont know why it would work on IDE-1 but not IDE-2. So it works on IDE-1 as the slave BUT not on IDE-2 as the master?

Are you running a Burner Drive on either IDE cables?

The secondary IDE, I tried my Acer 40X, my 13Gig hard drive, and the old TrueX 52x, all ran fine. Its just the 72x, it can boot, but it locks up the machine consistently, when I put in a CD, it recognizes it just fine, I go in to the CD directory, still fine, then I hit "back", which supposedly returns me to My Computer, but right at that moment, the machine will freeze, the hard drive LED is on for some reason, so is the 72x's LED.

It works fine on primary slave, no way I can try Primary master because thats where my boot drive is, I tried both secondary master and slave, same thing happens, my burner is on SCSI.

Thats what I meant the secondary Master. But you tried both Master and slave on the secondary and no go I see. But works fine on the Primary slave and your H/D is running off the Primary Master. This is odd. I dont know much about SCSI drives if there could be a problem there somewere. But you really dont know if flashing created this problem since you flashed it before you acually got to run it for very long correct? I would say its your drive but it works fine on the primary slave.

Someone help this man out, Im running out of ideals! :)

Let me try a different cable and see what happens, could be the cable I was using for the secondary.
