So, after tinkering around in my case this morning, I went to boot up only to hear a "pop" sound and then nothing. I checked all the connections and turns out I plugged a fan molex into the input of my (secondary) HD power. Oops! Would this have caused a short?
I fixed this and it still won't boot. All I have is the green light on the mobo. I cleared the cmos and tried booting with just RAM, PSU, and CPU. Still nothing. Fans don't even spin in the PSU. (BTW, I don't have a case speaker, so can't hear POST beeps).
I moved the PSU over to another computer, and when I turned the PSU power switch on, it made this godawful high-pitched whine. I didn't try booting the other computer yet for fear of frying it if the PSU is bad.
If it does end up that my PSU is dead, what are the chances that I fried other components as well? I don't have an extra PSU with the correct connectors, so I can't test my mobo/cpu/ram. Thanks for any help; I know it was a stupid mistake, but I'm sure someone out there has had a similar experience...
