Did I kill my power supply?

So, after tinkering around in my case this morning, I went to boot up only to hear a "pop" sound and then nothing. I checked all the connections and turns out I plugged a fan molex into the input of my (secondary) HD power. Oops! Would this have caused a short?

I fixed this and it still won't boot. All I have is the green light on the mobo. I cleared the cmos and tried booting with just RAM, PSU, and CPU. Still nothing. Fans don't even spin in the PSU. (BTW, I don't have a case speaker, so can't hear POST beeps).

I moved the PSU over to another computer, and when I turned the PSU power switch on, it made this godawful high-pitched whine. I didn't try booting the other computer yet for fear of frying it if the PSU is bad.

If it does end up that my PSU is dead, what are the chances that I fried other components as well? I don't have an extra PSU with the correct connectors, so I can't test my mobo/cpu/ram. Thanks for any help; I know it was a stupid mistake, but I'm sure someone out there has had a similar experience...

I would say your power supply is gone. As far as your other components possibiliy damaged, it is possible but you will just need to install a good psu in and see what happens. You just never know.

i bet that you fried the main fuse in there pop off the lid of the psu and check the fuse if it is a newer model under warrenty i would try to rma it just to see
rule of thumb "spend at least 5 minutes double checking a system after a build to asure you got it right"

Update: got a power supply from a friend and hooked it up. Everything booted up just fine, so all I did was fry my PSU. Looks like it's RMA time. Thanks for the responses guys.
