I was in the habit of pressing my reset button on the front of my case when I wanted to restart my computer for whatever reason. I was told that was a stupid idea since the reset button on the front of the case is a last resort.

Well one day I awoke to find that when I press the reset button my computer restarts and as it hits the windows desktop I get a message saying entering power safe mode!! The the screen goes blank and my monitor light turns orange (reddish).

The only way my computer can start now is if I press the power button down for like a couple seconds then computer shuts off then I wait awhile then press power button to turn it on again. If I press restart in windows I get the same message saying entering power safe mode as I did when I pressed the reset button on the front of the case.

So did I fubar my power supply?

Oh I checked properties in desktop and went to power and all my settings are on "never".

anyone had this problem? any suggestions?

FIRST: No, you can't harm the PSU or computer by using the reset. However, you should not reset while in Windows - you should exit windows first.

SECONDLY: I have no idea why you're even using the reset. Modern computers turn their power supplies off automatically when you exit Windows. If you need to do a restart you should do that from the windows shutdown menu. So what's the reset for? How do you "turn on" your computer with the reset button in the morning?

I'm not sure I really understand the problem. If your computer is off and you press the power button, what happens? Does it power up and boot?
