I was plugging in the laptop Hd into my main system to add Linux and I didn't notice I mis-positioned the adapter, it was shifted down 1 set of pins. My system shut down immediately, then I figured out the problem, but now it doesn't recognize the HD. Is there any hope of recovery? I know the odds are against me, but I can hope...

Hi, I you are real lucky you only blew some of the data. If all else fails try to partition and format the drive. Luck, Jim

Is the HDD spinning up?

Also, was there any data on it? FAT32/NTFS?

Iti is possible that you could have mixed the pins that supply the power with another pin like data or two positive termanals toghter, causing a short.

I think it's dead. It's not even spinning up. I guess I'll hit EBay and find a cheap replacement. it was only a 4G I am/was using in a hacked Iopener.
