Did I kill my 7D battery?

Left my charger at home and tried to charge the battery with another photog's charger - he claimed his was near-universal, as you could adjust the distance between electrodes, so that they'd touch any battery in the right spot to charge. Long story short, now the cam displays a red light when the battery is inserted. Fml. 🙁 Did I kill it or just drain it? Won't have my charger back for a while to test if it still works, so I'm not sure if I should just buy a new battery right now.

was this home-brewed? You probably fried your battery though...usually the input/output power are handled by the adapter powering said charger.

Messing around on the contact side of things to the battery is asking for trouble especially if no sensing electronics are built in.

Without a charger buying a new battery isn't going to do you any good.

I'd try to charge it on your charger first.

However, I'd always have at least two batteries in any device.

It wasn't home-brewed - it was a Chinese "multi battery charger" with what looked like a ton of electronics built in. It had USB and power outlet modes, and I used the power outlet mode. Do you think I fried the battery?
