Did I just ruin my plasma?

GF and I were playing super smash brothers on my 50" plasma. We paused the game and ran to the neighbors quick to invite them over but forgot to turn off the TV. A quick run turned into 30 minutes and when we came back and went to switch games, I can see the images from the Smash Brothers paused game.

I have regular TV running right now to try and fix it. Can I burn in my plasma after only 30 minutes? Its over a year old right now and contrast is set less than 50%.

Also any advice on what to do to possibly fix it would be appreciated. Could it just be ghosting and not burn in?

Give it time. I get burn in on occasion, and it seems that what I've read is true. Newer plasmas are much more immune to burn in. Give it a week and see what happens.

Even when I do show evidence of burn in, when I'm watching TV, I don't even notice any artifacts.

Its most likely just an afterimage...just play some other material for a while and it should go away

It's probably not burn-in. It's probably image retention. There are things to play to get rid of it, though I think you said you had problems playing snow

All fixed! I ran the disc from EAprogramming and the image retention is all gone. I don't see it anymore at all. Now I'm just letting some HD HBO run to make sure I got it all

Sounds about right, newer plasmas don't seem to have as many issues with actual burn-in.

Have you adjusted your settings and turned your brightness and contrast down? If you've properly let your set "break in" for the first 1000 hours, it's unlikely that the image retention you're seeing is permanent.

1K hours is nearly 3/4 of a year watching 4 hours a day average. Who is really going to buy a plasma and wait that long before dialing in the picture properly?
Or do you leave it running for a month straight? Sounds nuts to me.

Or do you leave it running for a month straight? Sounds nuts to me.

It's a little excessive. I was extra careful with my settings for the first 300 hours before bumping up the brightness and contrast to "Avia-calibrated" levels.

Still, it's important to take proper precautions to ensure that your TV operates at its best.
