<< Pull the cpu out make sure you put it back in with the corner without the pins corresponding to the corner of the socket with no
holes,push the locking bar down all the way reinstall the heatsink and see what happens.If that doesn't work pull the ram out and reseat it,taking care to put it in the right way.If that doesn't work try reseating all the expansion cards and cables.Let us know how things go.Good luck! >>
He better hope he put the CPU in the right way or else those bent pins will take forever to straighten out! Seriously though, it's pretty difficult to install the CPU the wrong way, the pins just won't go in unless it's seated correctly.
gseiner - the black stuff is the thermal pad that comes with the heatsink; it's SUPPOSED to fuse to the cpu to make a seal (kind of like thermal grease except that stuff melts whereas grease stays viscous). As for not booting, that's weird. Make sure the heatsink is oriented correctly and locked into place (make sure the tabs go all the way to the other side). If the heatsink isn't properly locked into place, it probably wouldn't boot.
