And no, you haven't been took - you still have the laptop and a alledgedly fraudulent bid (I say that since it might be valid, but I doubt it). Happens all the time. I don't sell to negative eBay'ers, and if they insist - I insist on them sending payment first. If they're not comfortable with that, I offer escrow services. I had a few offers like this - but it was via email, and I think every time, eBay had sent me a notice warning me about the bid. It's interesting that they're going via the bid process now... :Q Feedback ratings are the way to go in eBay - if I get a 100% bidder (w/ like >50 or so feedbacks), I feel pretty safe. Low numbers in the teens w/negs - forget it: they want it, they can work for it.

I've seen the same scam before. Forward that message to spoof@ebay.com - they will take it from there, and acknowledge whether or not it is a scam. An analysis of the headers and DNS numbers can identify where it was really sent from.

Seems like ebay should post on their front page saying dont accept nigerian orders.

Yep, scam and he will get back to you likely with a fake US Money Order Issued email saying that the money order will be held in escrow as (a feature that the USPS doesnt offer) till the laptop is recieved. Make sure you file a claim with ebay to get your listing fee's back and report the guy as a spoof buyer etc. Ebay will only expedite action against such scams if it hurts them in the cash department so filing for your listing fee refunds is very important.
