Did I just get duped by this suit salesman?

Ok, I went to JC Penny earlier to look for a suit for upcoming job interviews. The salesman there was extremely helpful and seemed like a great guy. He helped me find some "deals" and I kinda just went with what he was saying because I know nothing about suits(I told that unfortunately) and he seemed genuinely interested in helping me save money. Then when I got home and looked at his business card that was attached to my package, I noticed that he worked on commision. Of course now I'm wondering why he would have been so interested in finding me "deals". I'm starting to wonder if he got a little extra for getting rid of stuff that that nobody else wanted.

Anyways, the material of the coats he talked me into weren't the standard wool or what have you. One of them was Suede(Gray) and the other was a mix of camel hair, wool, and nylon(black). He told me that he had two coats of the same material...yada yada yada so I figured he knew what he was talking about.

Does anyone here know enough about suits to know if I was had?

well, are you happy with the suit? did you pay no more then you had seriously hoped to pay?

if so, then you have a nice pair of suits made of very nice material!

And when I sold computers for Best Buy, I supposedly owned a Compaq and a HP computer. I bought my mother an emachine for Christmas just last year and not a lick of trouble!

Can't really tell without knowing the price. I think you just have a dose of buyer remorse, which will wear off eventually.

Go back and ask him 🙂 If he starts straddling off, speaking gibberish, or looks nervous then you know you gotta punch him 🙂

It's not that I'm not happy with them. I could go to Goodwill and probably could find a suit that I could be happy with because I know absolutely nothing about them. Both jackets were Staffords and retailed for $150.

You could go to goodwill and end up with a Norman Hilton $700 jacket, seriously; found one there.
For a suit, I would suggest a 100%l wool suit in midnight blue from BrooksBrothers, JosBanks, Corbin, or Oritsky.
If you need two suits, get the second in a charcoal with a strip, maybe like this one:

Or simply in charcoal, like this one:pic (scroll down to the charcoal swatch)
These are very conservative, which may not be how you are used to dressing, but it will give you a professional look, and stay in style longer.

Mears, do you mean the jackets are $150 each or total?
If you're spending $150 ea, you ought to try Mens Warehouse--they know their sh!t, and it's quality stuff.

this man knows what he's talking about. Mens warehouse has some nice clothes.

If it were me, I'd go with a conventional look (regular wool/gabardine etc.) for a job interview - grey suede and that other mix might be very cutting edge fashion but that's not always the look you strive for on an interview. I could be wrong though, they might be very nice and just right, hard to say from here 😉 Can you ask someone who could see you in them?

You pretty much get what you pay for, and for the price you paid, you got some pretty nice clothing. There's nothing wrong with what he sold you. As long as you look good in it, that's all that matters.
