Did I just bork my ancient G4 Powerbook? Really? (Help?)

So, I have this old G4 Powerbook I was getting ready to sell. I even had a buyer coming over tonight! (I called and cancelled, sigh).

I have 2 batteries for the thing, one that works, and an ancient one that I'm like 95% sure can't hold a charge. Also of note, is that the power cable is balky; if it shifts to the wrong position, it loses contact and power. Keeping that in mind, the thing was powered up (I think) and booted. I flipped it over, popped out the newer battery, and popped in the older one. I THOUGHT I saw a flicker of green status lights (like older Powerbook batteries have). I flipped it back over and things were fine for a second, but then I guess the power cable moved, and it lost power. As the battery had no juice, zappo, the thing powered down.

I quickly powered it back up, and it did that weird thing Powerebooks sometimes do where it, like, "exhales" with the fan for a second before it turns on. The thing powered up, I hear the DVD drive do it's thing, I get the tone and...nothing.

No screen (I even plugged it in to an external, but that's via a DVD adapter to an HDMI cable, so maybe it wants something analog, I dunno), no boot, no hard drive, no nothing.

So did I just fry my computer? Is that even possible? Any ideas how to get the thing to boot? I'd love any hints anyone can provide.

Thanks!
