the screen door closer i got from home depot is of the stanley brand. i followed the instructions provided to me in the packaging and installed the closer couple days ago. What i notice after the installation is that the screen door with the closer no longer open to 90 degrees. An estimated maximum open angle of the door is about 75%. Is this correct? Is this how it is supposed to be? This is my first time installing a screen door closer and i am not sure if this is the characteristic of all screen door closers.

Did you install it in the existing holes or did you make the hole locations yourself?

Pic? Why does it stop at 75%? Does the rod part not pull out any more or does something hit on something else? It should open to at least 90 degrees

Pic? Did you install the triangle shaped piece of metal that hooks to the wall the wrong way?

1) i did make the holes myself.

2) the rod does not pull out anymore. the door or the closer is not hitting anything that would preventing it from opening any further.

3) no i did not install the triangle piece the wrong way.

Compare the shaft lengths of the different units. Old versus new. It is possible that you may need to have mounted the unit further over on the door(more towards the hinge side).

Yes, the closer it is to the outer portion of the door jamb the further out the door will be able to open.

outer portion of the door jamb?

Maybe i should recheck my measurements. it make sense that if i am 0.5-1" off from where the triangle is supposed to be placed (away from the jamb), i would likely run into a condition like this.

The jamb is the solid frame around the door. Putting it closer to the outer portion (closer to the screen door, versus the solid door) will give you more opening.
