Did I hit the ceiling with my 3200+?

Just got this:

a64 3200+ Winchester
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
1GB OCZ Plat. Rev2
XFX 6800GT
AMD retail cooler (at 2300MHz, 52C full load)

Well, at 10x230MHz, 2.5-4-4-10 1T it runs stable... When I tried 2400MHz, even pumping +5% to vcore, it still gives me an error when running SuperPI.

HTT is at 4x, Cool and Quiet disabled, all other options in BIOS set to conservative levels, Spread Spectrum disabled.

Maybe I forgot something? Or my CPU is a dud (well, a 15% overclock is not THAT bad, but seeing what others have...)

I got the same board with a 3000+ 90nm cpu and I can't get above 2.2Ghz.

HT = 4X
FSB = 245MHz
1:1 Memory ratio

My ram is PC4000 kingston HyperX..

I noticed a notable speed boost going from a PIII 1 GHz to my current setup however some stuff still seems to run better on my old machine.

Try lowering the multi to 9x and upping the HTT. My 3200+ winnie(week41) and the same OCZ ram as yours maxs at 10 x 245 = 2450, but using a 9x I'm currently running 9 x 284 =2557. You will most likely need to use a 166 memory divider

Your load temp is about the same as mine, but I'm using a TT heatpipe w/120mm fan

Well I tried isolating stuff. Tried 300MHz FSB (HTT 3x), worked fine, with a multi of 6x and the RAM at 200MHz. Tried the RAM alone at 250MHz (HTT 4x), with the multi at 8x. Fine. It's ONLY the CPU then. It boots at 2500MHz @ 1.55V, but SuperPI craps out. Too bad... I guess my bad luck with overclocking continues since my p3-700. Wow. Must be a record. :)

Windows does feel less "snappy" with the a64 than with the p4 2.8C it replaced... Games are faster though.

Of course I did. Well, it's not bothering me anyway.

That should help to see if it is your mobo or cpu that is holding your back.
