Something very strange happened to me a few nights ago. I would appreciate it if you guys could offer your thoughts as to what it was, because I have no idea.
I had been at a party in the evening - eating, dancing, drinking (probably had 6 or so drinks in 3 hours). My girlfriend and I went back to her place after the party. She had brought some rum to the party and there was about 2 shots worth left, so we decided to just finish it before we went to bed. She mixed my shot with about 12 oz of Dr. Pepper. I drank half of that and started to feel weird, so I dumped the rest. I proceeded to go upstairs and take my contacts out, which is when I started to not feel well at all. Most prominently was a stabbing pain in my lower left side and the feeling like someone had kicked my left nut. I laid down to rest, and that's when the weird part started.
First my teeth began to chatter. My jaw had never moved so fast before. It was ridiculous chattering and I'm surprised my teeth made it out okay. Her roommates heard it from downstairs. I was breathing pretty heavily after a minute or so of this. I don't remember if I was shivering/shaking at all. I do remember that I did not feel cold at all. My girlfriend's first reaction was to throw blankets over me, but I was not cold and she confirmed that I did not feel clammy. My mental state during this episode could best be described as off and on. At most points I was fully cognizant and talking, but at others I remember rolling my eyes back and losing sense of things. I moaned about the pain in my side/nut a lot, but I don't know if that was related to this at all (I could have just sat on it wrong or something).
The strangest part of all of this is that I stopped it by thinking about other things. As I distracted myself the chattering slowed down and I felt better. Eventually I concentrated on the TV and I returned to normal. This whole episode lasted about 10 minutes.
Have you guys ever heard of such a thing happening? I tried looking it up online, and came up with a panic attack because it seemed to me that this was all mental (aside from the pain in my gut). If this was a physical reaction to something I had ingested I don't think I would have been able to stop it by thinking about stuff other than what was happening to me.
Again, I appreciate your thoughts.
Cliffs:
1) came home from party
2) pain in my gut
3) Teeth chattering uncontrollably along with heavy breathing for 10 minutes or so
4)Went away when I distracted myself.
5) What happened?
