Did i get the wrong kind of Arctic Silver?

Hi! I got a Crystal Orb and was told I needed some Arctic Silver...Well I got some, but it's Artic Silver Thermal Adhesive... is this the right kind? It says it will never come off etc. etc. Will this work with attaching to my Radeon 8500 or did I get the wrong stuff? thanks.

The AS epoxy is exactly what you want to attach a crystal orb to a Radeon GPU because it will not come off. If you used regular AS, you would need some sort of retention mechanism to hold the crystal orb on; which is why AS is good for CPU heatsinks since they clamp onto the CPU socket.

just remember that if you need to return a dead part it might be hard to explain. let alone save your cooler.
good luck

I would never ever use epoxy...

Use some Arctic Silver 3.. and then when you put the AS3 down on the chip, leave tiny little spots on each corner... put there a little dab of super glue.. then put the BLORB down and hold tight... hold it for about a minute.. then try it out... it should stay no problem...

The slight gain in cooling from using thermal compound is negated by the fact that there is less surface area to conduct heat (way more important).

Wouldn't that be a CRORB? 😉

Huh?????
How is there less surface area?

He mentioned putting super glue into the corners of the chip. Super glue doesn't conduct heat very well, so in effect, you're insulating those areas.
