Okay, so like 2 or 3 months ago I got some telemarketer call about buying some magazine subscription. I decided to get it since I was in the market for some new magazines anyways, but then like 30 minutes later I changed my mind and decided to cancel the order. They went on about how they can't cancel it and whatnot and some stupid stuff about how they can't take it out of the system... blah blah blah. I even had to talk to a supervisor and she was just about as dumb as the caller.

Anyways, tonight I get a call asking if I would like to upgrade my current subscription plan. I was like.... uh, I cancelled it 2 months ago and the lady said "no, we show that you just downgraded your package deal." I said, "no, if it was downgraded I sure haven't been getting any magazines, also I have not had any charges on my credit card either." She couldn't seem to comprehend that I had cancelled it earlier and I was like, well then cancel it now if it's not and she gave me some more stupid crap like earlier about how she couldn't cancel it. I said fine, leave it how it is (since I haven't been getting charged, what do I care what their system says). After I got done talking to her, I began to think was this a way for them to scam me into renewing my subscription? I'll be on the lookout for any misc credit charges... I hate telemarketers. :(

You answered the phone. All your fault.

May want to search the archives (not sure with what keywords) but there was a thread over a year ago about a scam that operates by getting people to subscribe to like 5-6 years' worth of subscriptions and their credit card gets dinged like $700 and getting it canceled is more difficult than splitting an atom!

Tell me about it; they won't take no for an answer. I want to find out where they work and slap 'em across the head. :)

Anyone help me with that thread?

I actually asked for a new card # in order to keep Verisign from billing me for services against my wishes.

If the caller ID says unknown name/unknown number I don't answer either. Heck, even if I do see a number I usually don't answer. I hate the phone :frown:

This is easy fix... if they call, turn it in to a phone sex session, and they'd never call again. Regardless if they're gals or guys calling.

People like you are why telemarketers bug people.

If no one bought their crap, telemarketers would go out of business.

Lesson of the day: never ever ever give out personal information, especially credit card numbers, over to the phone unless you placed the call yourself.
