I bought this and it states "ASUS v9950/256M" on the pcb. It's supposed to be a 256mb card. It shows up as a 128mb card in windows. Is it possible that my mobo is so old that it won't recognize 256mb on a video card? It's a gigabyte 7VTXE.

The motherboard has the following:

VIA KT266A(VT8366A) System controller north bridge
VIA VT8233 V-Link south bridge

Since it came from newegg I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. I took the hs off and the ram is marked:

hy5du283222

af-22 320a

kor 7L40686k

There are 8 of those little square chips.

If the video card drivers, the chipset drivers, and DX aren't installed properly sometimes problems like this arise. I've seen 128MB cards show up as 64MB cards, reinstalling the chipset drivers, GART most specifically, corrected it.

Seems like those were the exact same chips my card had on it when I took the heatsink off to put AS3 on them. There are 8 also and my card is 128mb, hmmmm might try it in another comp if possible and if same results ship that sucker back.
