my neighbor complained about some tree branches on my property so i hired an illegal mexican to cut the two branches. after he did the work he asked me for $450 dollars which i got at the atm and gave him. i was a little surprised he wanted that much but didnt say anything (i was expecting to pay less than 100, although we didnt have any sort of agreement about price). if there are any yardie types here does that sound high for that type of work? it was basically two branches about 6 inches in diameter and 7 feet long. when i looked at the branches he put in the recycling bin it was maybe 8 logs and a few twigs

It would have taken an hour perhaps two?

Lol if it had taken 2 hours he was working for 225 per hour,

on the other hand, those illegals would have a pretty tough life, as it is, so if he has kids, you helped feed his family.

I would supervise illegals next time bro

We had an entire 20 foot tree removed along with the stump and largest roots for $500, including fill-in of the hole with dirt and seeded with grass, by a reputable landscaper who was born here.

Wtf would you pay him upfront?

So not only were you stupid for hiring one but also for doing that so I guess you deserved it. :p

Well then why would you pay him that much.

Get a set price ahead of time or if you were broke call ins after the work was done. :awe:

O good way to see how badly you got taken is to call a tree service and get a price quote for the work you had done.

Never hire an illegal to do a job at your house. If they feel you underpaid them, chances are that they'll come back at night and have their way with you and your daughter.

I am going to keep my opinions on illegals to myself, especially considering most of you already had enough of me anyway.

You were stupid. NEVER agree to any work unless you know it advance what the price will be. I just had some work done by 3 Americans and some MASSIVE trimming of a big ugly tree in my yard only cost 150, and that was super expensive because it hadnt had any in 10 years. The guy told me if I had him come back once a year for a little bit of work it would only cost around 40 bucks each time.

You got owned so bad I actually feel a little sorry for you.

two branches, no special tools, etc?

Shouldn't really have been over $100. Probably closer to $50.

Cost of living is a lot less in S.C. but my folks are getting a 100' pine taken down and hauled off for ~$1500.

Wow, we had a gigantic oak tree entirely removed for $450. The thing was at least 3 feet in diameter.

That /may/ have been worth it if the "limbs" fell off a 400 year old oak, and they were a few feet in diameter. Sounds like you got charged $64 per cut. I'd have chewed through them for $450 :^D

If you're going to be giving away money like that, I sure could use some.

Had a massive maple tree, probably 100 years old, cut down in front of my house between the power lines & house. $160. But, that price was just for "down." No cleanup or anything else. I didn't care if he did it in 3 pieces or 20 pieces. My son - probably 15 years old at the time - did 90 percent of the work to cut it up and dispose of it using a cheap $100 Poulan chain saw.

He would also have enough sense not to pay someone $450 to cut down two small limbs. How the hell did you get a house & a job that pays enough to even afford something like that? (With that much of a lack of common sense: hiring illegal, not getting a price up front, getting raped on the price...)
