han, not sure if that means I got a good deal or not. All I did was haggle with a sales guy.

That doesn't seem like a very good deal to me. The Inspiron 9300 in my sig I bought for $1700 after taxes/shipping. First, you could save a whole bunch by getting the minimum memory and upgrading that yourself. I think they charge $250 extra for the gig, when a 1GB stick of DDR2-400/533 at newegg is ~$105.

OK im gonna come out and say it. NO, you got screwed. With all the $750 off coupons and discounts floating around, you coulda have saved $500+.

This was with the discounts, the list price was 2966.

if I took 750 off that would come to 2216 not including tax or shipping (however that only applied to certain systems not the one I wanted).

if I add on a 25% discount that comes to 1662 before taxes and etc.

Considering I could not use the 750 (just the other 500 off coupon) why is it so bad?

Granted, I could have dropped the 4 year warrenty but I thought that would pay to have since most parts to not last that long.

I appreicate you guys telling me I could do better but how?

2 questions:

1) I can drop the price by $450 if I go with 256 ram instead. I have decided to do this assuming that dell does not void their warrenty if you personally change the ram. Do they?

2) Is the both ram slots acessable in the 6000d? I have heard some laptops only have one availble dim slot which can be accessed. If this is the case, and I order 256 ram, that will mean that my system will be limited to 1 gig 256k ram.
Is this correct?

THanks for your help.

1) I dont think warranty is void if you add RAM.
2) Both slots are easily accessible.

Someone confirm my answers though, dont want to give wrong advise =).

Ram is easily accessed. 2 screws and a plate comes off and there's the RAM slots. It won't void your warranty to add RAM, but if the RAM is bad, it's between you and where you got it from to get a replacement.

It literally took me 30 seconds to put in the RAM in my Inspiron 9300 :)

Also, with the warranty...4 years is only worth it if you don't plan on buying another laptop in that time. In 4 years the think will be ancient, but if you still plan on depending on it, then that would be the only reason to go for it.

I also don't believe the 2 GHz P-M is a great value, the 1.86 would save $200 I believe for 140 MHz. It's up to you though.

not $2,000 anymore. If I changed the ram to 256, I will only be paying $1,550. That seems like a much better deal to me.

Still not a good deal.

I bought an identical system, minus the 7200 drive for $815, but I cancelled that because THAT wasn't a good enough deal.

You still got took.

I am sorry if I am wrong but there is NO WAY I can believe you got the same system specs for 815 (and then turned it down). I would love to see a copy of your invoice they emailed you to see this. Again, if I am wrong I appolize but unless I see proof there is NO WAY I can believe that.

On a different note, I can always cancel the order tomorrow so it is not such a big deal. ANyone else have any feedback?

Umm yeah, $815 would actulay be an extremely good deal for that, I just wouldn't get one because I can get a better deal elsewhere and get one with a decent graphics chip.

if you are going to spend $1500+ look around at other manufacturers, you can get a lot of machine for $1500, just spend some time and research. Asus, Toshiba, IBM all make laptops in that price range that are superior to a 6000.
