Did I get a good deal on this Antec?

Well i was following up on a post here about a month ago and called CompUSA back to see if they still had the Antec 282+pp303x in stock and if the price was lower than $80 yet. The manager said they had 4 in stock and he would hold one for me.

I told him about the HOT deals gotten on these around CompUSA's and he agreed to sell it to me at $38.99. When I got there today they gave me a KS280+pp303x and said they were giving me that instead since the 282's had already been shipeed back. The 280 was priced at $99 (where the 282 was $79). The guy told me I was getting an even better case in the 280 as evidenced by the price.

Is this true? It would seem that a higher number would suggest a newer/better product....but the 282 WAS $79 where the 280 was $99. The speccs are only slightly different and appearance is very similar. Any help or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like the 282 has removable side panels, whereas the 280 has one big case panel that goes on both sides and on the top. Otherwise they appear to be very similar.

I would prefer the 282 over the 280 if that is the case. I modded my old Enlight 7237 and it's one big piece you remove. It looks like an 'n'. Modding is very hard when you have to deal with a big heavy piece rather than removable side panels.

The KS282 is newer then the KS280, it's cheaper because it's made with thinner metal (.8mm vs 1.2mm). Additionally the KS280 was new back with Pentium 133's were all the rage, they were the first ATX cases we sold.

Also higher numbers don't necessarily mean newer cases, for example the KS288 is newer then the Ks280, but not newer then the KS282.

so anteccsr,
did they switch em out on me to gimmie an older case to keep from giving me the "better" case? or did they really give me a "better" case for the same great price?

either way i am happy w/ the pp303x so the enclosure is not as important...i just want to know if the department workers were holding out on me to get em themselves.....thoughts?

also, what is w/ the site www.antec-inc.com been down for 3 days...

Personally I prefer the 282 over the 280, but that's me. It really depends on what you want out of the case. If you're not going to be opening it up much, or just leaving the U-cover off, then the 280 is fine (good solid tank like construction). If you're keeping it closed but like to get in there a lot, then you're likely to get annoyed.

The site should be working.

is this right: http://www.antec-inc.com if so i keep getting a 'cannot find server' message.... i have even gone to google and tried to get to internal pages (/products etc) w/ no luck
