Did I get a dud? Amazon refurbished 480

I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but just to be sure.

So I sold my 2Gb 770, and bought an Amazon refurbished 4Gb 480. (Sapphire Nitro+)

It arrived yesterday and this morning I swapped the 770 (I still have it until monday) for the 480, and installed the Crimson live drivers or whatever the name is for the AMD software stack for their GPUS (Haven't had an AMD in years)

As soon as I installed I noticed what seems like graphic artifacts in windows desktop, and both the Fire Strike benchmark and the For Honor demo fail to show any 3D scene and lots of artefacts in 2D screens (menus etc)

Is there any possibility that there are problems with the nvidia drives/geforce experience software (I haven't uninstalled anything because I wanted to do some comparisons with the 770)

Anything else I might be missing? Or I just have a dud GPU and all is left to do is return it to Amazon?

Not a driver problem. Looks like vram artifacts to me. Also possible the gpu is overheating. I'd return that card.

Yeah, that's what I think too, but because I have never swapped gpus without doing a new windows install I wasn't sure about the drivers.

I uploaded a couple more images of The Talos Principle, which shows 3D scenes, but with a lot of (very funny looking!!) artifacts.

The temperature is around 55-60 degrees, which I'm pretty sure is ok.

I guess I'll have to pony up the extra 15€ and get a new one instead the refurbished one.

I'd say it's not just this SKU. I've returned quite a few DOA or faulty computer parts to Amazon. The refurb might have a higher return rate due to its nature, but overall you are always going to get some duds. The waiting is the hard part. Good luck.

Well thats that. I started the return process with Amazon and bought a new one for 10€ more. All in all +115€ for a 770 2Gb to 480 4Gb upgrade. Seems fair for what I hope is two years of 1080p gaming @ high.

Sadly in Europe we don't enjoy the crazy low prices you guys get for some GPUs lol

Good to hear it wasn't much more for a brand new one . Use DDU: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html (use the safe mode launch option) once you get it to clear out any existing amd / nvidia drivers then install the latest after rebooting back to windows.

I mean it takes 1 minute to uninstall Nvidia drivers and reinstall the AMD ones. So why don't you do this, check if there is still problems and if so its 100% the card and you should return it!

I don't understand why you didn't do this in the first place? Its less time to do that, then write on these forums asking for help!

First of all, like your signature! I'm from Valencia lol and Valencia C.F fan (despite all...)

You're are right of course, but I still needed to run some things with the 770 and I received the 480 this morning 30min before leaving for the day so after running a couple programs and see that It was failing I left home and posted from my ipad later because I was sure I would get reputable answers before coming home.

Although your GPU is likely defective, whenever you move to a new IHV GPU, you should always use DDU to uninstall the video card and the drivers from your system. Failure to do this can cause some problems at times, as some remnants of the drivers are left on the system and can create conflicts.
