I was at jcpenney today looking for something nice for the girlfriend, and saw this nice Sapphire and diamond necklace in the clearance case for a little over 75% off...
Im not exactly sure how to read the tags but this is what it says:
14KW PEN
TW.07 1x3.0R
PREC PEND/NECK $629.00

I paid like 162 out the door with taxes after discounts. normally it would have been 666.74.
What do you guys think?

sorry, digital camera sucks.

JC Penny prices are inflated...629 is what you'd pay if you were a sucker and had no clue about jewlrey and just picked the first thing you saw.
162 is the price JCPenny can charge and still make a 50-75% profit.
Looks nice though...i bet the gf will like it ;)

Jewelry has no intrinsic value beyond what you are willing to pay for it. The only question is "Do you like it better than $162?" The original price has absolutely no bearing on the question. The store could have as easily slapped a $2 bgillion tag on the necklace and given you a 99.9999999999999% discount.

The real measure is "did she put out?" and if so "Was it worth $162" and if so "Pics?"

Not true. Gemstones have values that are variable but not arbitrary. Being satisfied with a Bose stereo doesn't mean it's worth the price. Then again, you're probably never going to sell jewlry.

JCPenny, Macy and them are always full of discounts

When you buy something that is "worth" $629 and marked down to $153, its actually something that is worth $50 and marked up to $629, then marked down to $153.

Having a price does not determine its worth. If it truly was a $629 necklace, the "sale" would be $100 off at most.

it was on clearance as well... plus employee discount (friends) and a 10$ coupon.
and for those who say it is ugly, the picture does no justice, it is white gold, and it is nice and sparkling. it actually has small diamonds between the outer sapphires and the 1 bigger center sapphire, it gives it a nice shimmer to it.

Man, I really really hate jewelry. I hope I can find a wife that doesn't want a stupid diamond ring. Money can be used in a much better way than buying a tiny useless rock.
