I think I just fried my mobo.

There are 2 places to check vcore on my board. One of them is from a mosfet. I might of slipped with the probe and touched something I shouldn't have because my board shutdown and won't boot.

When I turn on the PSU, the case fans "flinch", but thats it.

Can anyone confrim this diagnosis?

Could it be something else?

Thanks,

LJ

First, try and reset the CMOS and reseat everything. Maybe even move the RAM to different slots. Just the basic troubleshooting stuff. Maybe even remove the MB from the case to ensure it isn't shorting anywhere.

If that doesn't work, do you have a different PSU you can try? It's possible that you shorted something in the PSU. Otherwise, you probably need a new MB.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried resetting the CMOS yesterday. I'll try reseating everything, but I suspect I killed something. I guess I should pick up a spare PSU and check that before I get a new board.

Thing is this board is APG, so if I have to get a new board, I have to get a GPU also. We'll I guess I wouldn't have to, but I've been thinking of upgrading. I've been waiting for the ATI RD580 boards to come out before I upgrade, but it looks like I might have to do it now.

Thanks,

LJ

Just recently, I was upgrading my kids PC from an old Socket A platform. They have my only Radeon 9700, so they need an AGP board.

I decided to go with the Asrock Dual SATA board/Opty 146 and give them my Neo2 Platinum/A64 3800+ (Newcastle). That way when I decide to upgrade my 6800GT, I can get a PCI-e card without the need for a new MB. This board is great. I even get higher 3DMark scores on my current rig than my Neo2/3800. Of course my Opty is OC'd to 2.7 where as my 3800 only went to 2.52GHz.

So if you need a new board, I would definitely look at the Asrock board unless you are going to go ahead and get a new PCI-e card now.

dontcha love it when something slips and stuff goes wrong....
I fried my cmos once by static discharge - comp ran fine except I couldn't change hardware, and then my hd started dying but I couldn't replace it
yeah I made sure I was discharged from then on

How long until the ATI RD580? If it isn't too long maybe you could hold out until then

I considered the Asrock board, but I'm ready for an upgrade. The RD580 boards are "supposed" to be out before the end of the month, but they were also supposed to be released with the X1900's, so who knows.
