Did I fry my 120mm fan?

Hi, I have a Nidec 120mm fan with 3 wires coming out of it(1 black, 1 red and 1 blue). I guessed that they were GND, 12V and fan monitoring wires respectively, but wasn't sure. So, I got an AC to DC power convertor that puts out up to 10.5V DC, and connected the red and black to the + and - of the convertor. Sure enough it worked. Then, feeling curious, I plugged the blue into + instead of the red...nothing happened. I reverted back to red and black and still nothing happened.

Now, it sometimes spins for a while(less than 5 seconds) and stops. Did I fry the fan?

Well on that blue wire come two pulses for every fan rotation.

You try to feet 10.5v DC into a line that is pulsing with the fan...not good...

You probably toasted it. Have a nice day :p

Got it replaced, but had to settle for a Nidec 58CFM unit instead of the original 112CFM unit :(
Oh well, the upside is that its a lot quieter(I barely notice its addition), and I don't need that much exhaust on top anyway...

Haha, wasn't neccessary. I just went back to the shop and got it replaced. Those fans are cheap here anyway.

I just want to know, how did you touch the fan connectors without cutting off the molex connector? If you cut it off...wouldn't that void the warrenty?

Elemental...there's no warranty on this thing. Its just a part I bought from a hardware/electronics store and the wires were bare, which is why I could test them. I had to buy separate molex connectors and put them on myself. Besides, who needs a warranty on a fan that costs like 7USD?
