Okay so I just built a new computer, hooked everything together (or so I thought) and turned it on. The power supply's fan turned on for the briefest moment, just span up then right back down. What the hell? I try it again, same thing.
I open up the case and look around, and figure out that I didn't hook up the ATX 12v connector by the processor. It is an 8 pin connection, and all my PSU (one that I salvaged from my old computer, 450w OCZ one I bought a while back) has is a 4 pin connection which doesn't even reach there anyways since I bought a bottom mount case.
I ordered a new PSU as well as an 8pin extension, but did I do any sort of harm to my computer already? I wouldn't think so since no extra voltage was put somewhere it shouldn't be, it just didn't work. I'm going to be highly upset though if I hook up the new PSU to find out my new motherboard, memory, and processor are shot.
