did i fracture my arm?

so i went biking with a few of my cousins today and we were down by the river... i turn to look and i see this girl changing (heh heh heh) and i'm looking for a little bit and then i turn forward and there's a dude running my way. i slam on the brakes and i go flipping over, breaking my fall with my palm (not a good idea!). I get up and laugh it off and i seem fine, but whenever i turn my hand inward i feel it hurt a bit in my middle/upper forearm area.

Did i fracture something? i'm hoping i just jammed something. my cousins said if i had fractured something there'd be a bruise or it'd be swelling. its been about 2 hours now and my arm looks normal still. I can lift stuff a little bit, write fine, make a fist, but its just when i turn my right arm inward it hurts a bit. i'm hoping nothing's broken but i don't want to oversimplify the problem. i've put ice on it for about the past half hour since i've gotten home and its feeling a little better. It doesn't look like anything at all (no bones sticking out or swelling like crazy or anything). yall know any tests i can do or some tell tale signs to let me know if there could be something wrong with my arm? if it persists or gets worse i'll definately see a doctor tomorrow.

Have you considered going to a doctor?

Modern technology allows them to look inside your arm to see what the problem is.

Modern technology also allows you to view all the naked women you want from the privacy of your own bedroom. I suggest you look into that, as you're obviously somewhat inept at doing it out in the real world.

My advice: GO to an orthopedist as soon as possible. I was in a car accident and had fractured my wrist, but didnt know it at the time. I shrugged it off initially thinking it was just sore, but turned out to be a hairline fracture. So it might seem fine, but you still could have fractured it. By not going, you could be causing more damage. Even if its not fractured, you're better off going.

That's just soft tissue damage (muscles, tendons, ligaments). If it was bone damage you would not be able to move it at all and you would be crying. Give it some rest over the next week or two.

You might have sprained it. Usually it would bruise or swell had you fractured or jammed it.


Remember though, ATOT is no substitute for a doctor.

To me, it sounds like it's just sprained because you can't do that stuff with a broken arm (unless it's a hairline fracture).

It could be a ligament sprain if the pain is at a joint. Its certainly something to monitor and take it easy for a few weeks and if it doesn't improve then get xrays. If you don't have insurance and can't afford xrays then maybe get a real bright flashlight with those tiny hallogen bulbs and press it against the skin on the underside of your arm and look carefully at your illuminated arm for any breaks. If you don't see any then your either ok, or you need a brighter bulb.

No, you didn't break it. I broke my arm, and it was a LOT worse than that. Breaking your arm isn't like "Ow, it hurts when I twist my wrist this way". It's a lot more like "Oh sh!t, my arm's not supposed to bend there, and my hand should be 2 inches lower than where it is rght now! Ahh.... I hope they can fix it." At least that's how it was for me.

If you have a copy of an X-Ray we can look at, we could still get it wrong. You can't tell just by bruising or swelling, not all Fx will cause that. You could still have a very small fracture and not know by looking at it.

You should be seen by a doctor.

thanks folks. medical bills in my family are killer right now. it doesn't hurt much, but if its not feeling any better in a few days i'm going to see a doctor. thanks for the advice folks!

Same thing happend to me when I hit a step. I didn't feel any pain after an hour (3 hours waiting in the damn Emergency Room) and it only hurt when I tried to make my palm face side up. It was a compression break, which took 3 weeks to heal. I'd still consult a doctor..
