Did I flash my drive into a liteon?

I bought a Pacific Digital 48-12-48 (U-30127) from OM. Using MTKFlash, I flashed it with a lite-on 48125W firmware. I burned a CD with it at 16x (because I have it hooked up to an old P200), and it worked fine. It shows up as LTR-48125W in control panel. Is there any other way to tell if this drive is a lite-on. (For example, would it have rejected the flash if it was not a lite-on?)

normally, if it's not a liteon the flasher will say something like "cannot find a liteon device" or something like that.

Either that, or you would just have a completely useless CD-RW drive because the firmware doesn't let it communicate properly internally.:)

What does your burning software say? Nero usually states what burner it is. When you turn on your computer, does it say Lite-on, or LT in the BIOS?

Nero, my bios, and the control panel now recognize the drive as a lite-on. I was just wondering if I may have flashed a non-lite-on drive with lite-on firmware becaust mtkflash allows that. So far everything seems to be OK>

How do you know that it is a rebadged lite-on?

How do you know that it is a rebadged lite-on?

When I go to the pacific digital firmware upgrade page and I pick My burner, it gives me the page to www.liteonit.com, and their is a firmware upgrade for mine. Also it is identified by all the burn programs I have used. The face of the drive is the same as a lite-on, it has the capsule shaped eject button and looks like all the other lite-ons from the front.
Just recieved an email from Pacific Digital, they confirmed it is a lite-on drive

You are correct, this is a Lite On drive.
Thank you for contacting Pacific Digital Technical Support-let us know if we can be of further assistance.

lite-on makes them for several companies. some of those companies have the bios setup so that you can't use anybody else's bios flasher ie: lite-on. mtkflash makes that possible. but the bios wouldn't work to control the drive if it wasn't a lite-on. from now on you can use the lite-on web site and bios upgrades for your model. i have four burners, three of which are lite-on and a lite-on dvd rom (which turns into a JLMS if you flash it with any update) and love them. i always use the windows flasher, it works great. enjoy!:wine:

I also got one of these, haven't installed it yet. Why would I want to flash the firmware? Any risks involved?
