Did I do something wrong? My computer is slower than it should be!

Hi,
Well, I spent about $1000 on this system. It has an AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 512 crucial ram, an MSI neo2 platnium mobo, a 160 gig seagate hard drive, and an ATI 9800 pro vid card. I play a lot of games, and they run fairly smoothly, I am yet to play Doom3 though. A lot of online games are kind of slow though. Also, sometimes doing minor things like, opening up my Itunes folder or something will freeze, and lead me to needed to end the task. Web pages also run slow, and I must wait FOREVER sometimes. I was thinking this ocmputer would run faster on many things when I built it. Does all this sound like a slow network or something? This computer IS running on a wireless network. Would another stick of 512 mb ram help at all? Any suggestions? Was this computer built for gaming, and not web browsing and other things? I know I might be called a litle crybaby or some kind of name to point out the fact that I am probably just being fussy, but many things freeze on this computer, and I would like it to run faster ans smoother.
THANKS!!!!!!!

wahhh wahhh wahhh.. hehe..

loading web pages or online games may have something to do with your connection to the net..

i imagine seeing what is running when you boot up may help with your system resources..

(but there are way more qualified people here who should know where you need to turn to.. goodluck bud!)

Your not being too fussy, the computer should not freeze up on you. Sound like the slow web pages might be beacuse of the speed of your wireless connection, but the computer should not open files or folders slowly or freeze up. Did you build this computer yourself ???

is it getting enough air? cool/circulating air helps... (my dell gets hot (4700c) and its in a small area also.

maybe someone will recommend some tests you can run...

well I have a mess of cords in there, I am planning on getting an X-connect PS to clean it up, So I bet the circulation of air isn't that wel in there...you really think that heat might do it?

Is the CPU temp OK?? If it's high it might be the cause, but this sounds like it might be memory, or maybe something in the Bios is set wrong. You might reset it to defaults and see what happens and then make the changes back to what you normally have.

I haven't played with any MSI Athlon 64 boards, so I'm not familiar with the bios. None of the A64 Pcs I've built ran less than 1 gig, so I don't know what difference that would make just browsing and stuff.

You might want to download Sisoft Sandra or something like that, and run it and see if it finds anything really off or not. Run the memory and CPU tests and see if it's close to what a similar system.

cool n quiet? have you enabled cool n quiet on your A64? if you have you must have the drivers installed and power managment set to minimal power managment for it to work

else you'll be running a sweet 1Ghz

I have a similar system, same cpu, motherboard, and amount of RAM, and I am having similar experiences with it.

It started to crash three or four times a day so I formated my hard drive and reinstalled WinXP Pro. I downloaded and installed all the Window Updates and then I installed the latest motherboard, video card, etc drivers.

The computer has not crashed in a week. But appls like ACDC and Agent will stop responding and take a minute or two recover. When this happens taskmaster indicates that the cpu is under a 100% load. Cpu temperature is 35 to 39 degrees C.

The system is not overclocked.
