Did I do something wrong? (IMPORTANT)

OK, here's the deal. I just most of the parts of my new rig (still w/o MOBO, CPU, HD) yesterday from FedEX, and I was installing my Fortron AX-450 PSU into my case. Screwed it in properly, no problems. So I plug in my PSU and turn on the main switch on the PSU's back, nothing happens. Then I try connecting a molex to the rear case fan of my Cooler Master Centurion 5 case, turn on the power, nothing. Any idea what's going on?

I'm not sure if you have your mobo installed, but -

The back switch on a PSU wont do anything - you have to have your mobo hooked up and your front power button connected. Then you turn the PSU switch on before you hit the front power button.

No motherboard yet, all that's gone on is that the PSU is screwed onto the case and plugged in, as well as the attempt to get a fan's molex connected to a molex on the PSU to see if the PSU works... I've never built a system before so I don't know if a PSU is supposed to work without a motherboard attached.

wait for the mobo. you need to make the main connection to start the psu. or jump it but i'd just wait.

Yeah - you can jump start it, but its not suggested. Especially if its your first build

i wasn't even going to mention jumping it but i figured if i didn't, someone else would 😛

Quoted for sound advice.

OP, save this link, you will need it. Give it a good read or two as you quiver in happy anticipation of your hardware arriving.
