Did you use any scanners?
MalwareBytes & SuperAntispyware are the new popular ones to use.

Before you reformat, go to John's website and follow his instructions for Adware Spyware & Trojan Removal. As he suggests, run all scans in Safe Mode with Networking.

WEll, I tried safemode scan with SuperAntispyware but the problem still preceed. Although one thign that is very weird is that while I am in safe mode, google and yahoo is working fine. However, after I get back to normal mode, they are not working again. I tried the winsock fix as well. What is the next step? Rep[air xp installation or a clean install?

Well, it looks like something is starting up that is screwing up your computer. Go download CCleaner and see what is starting up. If you see anything that looks suspicious, go google it. (its under tools)
