Did Hungry Howies change their ingredients?

Haven't had pizza from there in a while but was disappointed in the pizza we just got. I used to like them though. So did they change or did I?

Hmm...I don't think I've ever had a flavored pizza...different toppings, sure, but flavors?

:p
Yeah. HH is all about selecting a flavored dust for your pizza. The flavor I selected was so overwhelmingly bad, there was no way to judge the quality of the pizza itself.

Hmm...weird. i don't remember that from my only visit to the one they had in Modesto. (Now closed) Must have been in the early 2000's I tried them right after they opened near our house.

Regional franchise that no one outside the great sate of MI would know about -

"Jet's Operates primarily in the state of Michigan"

Um, no.

They operate in:
Alabama
Arizona
Colorado
Florida
Georgia
Illinois
Indiana
Kentucky
Michigan
Minnesota
Missouri
New York
North Carolina
Ohio
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Virginia
Wisconsin

They've been in TN (32 locations) for years. It's Detroit style pizza and pretty good for a chain place.

Do they have 'Pizzaria Uno's' ("Chicago-style deep-dish Pizza"), anywhere outside of MA? Most of the locations around here closed.

Honestly, their pizza was really outstanding, but also, kind of expensive, and really thick. You could get full on 1-2 large slices. Pizza "Pie" would be appropriate here.

Still one open in Bellingham Larry.

Oh, cool. Kind of a drive for me, though. I've eaten at the one in Framingham, and Marlborough. (Edit: Before they closed.)

Marlborough closed a long time ago, I thought Framingham was still open but I haven't been in that area for a long time.

There was an Uno's in Modesto when we lived there. Possibly the worst pizza and the worst service I've ever had. Both of us got food poisoning...commode-hugging sick...and that's rare for me. I could dine out of the nastiest dumpster around and not usually get sick.

Edit: Looks like there were two Uno's there for a while...both are now permanently closed.

Funny similar thing happened to me at UNOs around 30 years ago but it was a burger. I didn’t realize how rare it was until I ate a bunch of it
Otherwise I disagree, their deep dish pizza was pretty good it just had to be an occasional treat.

There's some down here but I haven't tried them yet. I think it depends on too many factors to say. So one time doesn't tell you much. Could be the whole chain got worse, could be just that individual one isn't good, could be just the employees that were working that night. I'm not saying you should go there a bunch just to make sure (as that's obviously silly), but I wouldn't rule out the entire chain based on that. There's plenty of chains where there's one that just sucks and so you don't go to that one (and it sucks if its a place you like and its the closest to you, but it happens).

Lately my pizza cravings have been taken care of by Costco (for when I feel like some pizza but don't want leftovers, so a couple of slices from the food court), and probably Schlotzky's (Wednesdays pizzas are 2 for 1, which they're like personal pizza really, so it'd be filling for just one meal basically and possibly not even that depending on your hunger/craving; they're like $8 too so not exactly cheap, and I wouldn't say they're like all time great, but I like them well enough and there's a decent amount of other options like sandwiches for people that don't want pizza). Then I'd probably go for Pizza Hut during one of their 50% off menu specials or their $5 deal (although that got worse as the pizzas are $6 each now). I was eating Little Caesar's instead of Pizza Hut but we kept getting shitty pizzas from them so stopped (last I got was during their Pretzel crust promotion and it wasn't terrible but wasn't great either).

If I was going on a date it'd be other places like Fired Pie or Mod's or the various coal oven places. If it were bang for buck because you gotta feed 5-10 people then it'd be Costco, then probably Pizza Hut or Little Caesar's.

I should note, I'm not a big fan of true Italian style pizza. Not sure I've had "Detroit style" (have seen some claim Little Caesar's is closest for major chains but it just seems like typical budget pizza for the most part, with the Extra Most Bestest being decent if you get a good one). New York I could take or leave (don't hate it, don't love it). Chicago style isn't my thing either although I could maybe on occasion dig the deep dish but it'd make me not want to eat pizza again for like a year so I tend to stay away. I haven't tried a lot of the more boutique places down here (many are Italian style, or coal fired which I can take or leave too). I also haven't tried places like Sbarro's and the like that are in places I'm rarely at (malls, etc).

wait....wtf?

All the chains kinda did that when Domino's put garlic butter shit on theirs and fucking morons started acting like that suddenly made their pizza good (it doesn't, unless you're eating true Italian style pizza, leave that as like a dipping sauce or option and not mandatory). Pizza Hut followed suit and I hated it. Then Pizza Hut added other crust options and I liked the Pretzel Crust on the hand tossed (but they kept the garlic shit as the default). Now there's option for some garlic butter shit but its not the default (thankfully). They've changed their crust in the past year and some people hate it but I think I prefer it (the crust ends up fluffier like croissants and stuff, versus like cooked sourdough like texture that many places used to have).

I've only had Hungry Howies back like 25 or so years ago in my home town, and it was good. But that was then (and I was a dumb teenager too).

Nowdays I get Little Caeasers once in a while, and Jet's (so f'ing good; I get the Super Special with Turbo crust) like every couple weeks or so. Their BBQ pizza is brill. I first had it when they ordered some at work and I've been a fan since.

Hungry Howies has been pushed aside around here by domino's and little Caesars, HH was horrible, and Dominoes (even at 2 medium for $5.99 each delivered), sucks.
