Did homo sapiens evolve from apes?

There is some debate over when exactly we split, and exactly the evolutionary route we took, but yes, in all likelyhood, we did.

I don't think there is a question about it anymore. By now, its just about a certainty.

In the evolutionary tree, apes and humans branched about 6 million years ago from a common ancestor (if i remember my anthropology class correctly)

This and the idea that Evolution is a force directed toward making a "better" creature is a pet peeve of mine.

We insist on anthropomorphizing natural forces and it consistently causes severe misunderstandings.
