Did Hillary Really Say That?

According to Rush, Hillary was on the Today Show this morning with Matt Lauer, and it seems she had the following to say about Obama:

He hasn't done the spadework necessary to be president.

Now, I have to agree with him. If a Republican used this terminology, he would be grilled over the coals. We would have Sharpton and Jackson leading protest marches. But when Hillary says it? Nothing about it in the mainstream media.

Commentary from Rush Limbaugh.

Ah, the Hillary is a racist card. Didn't think it'd take this long.

Oh, if she said I believe we'll hear about it tonight on the political news shows.

spade = derogatory term for blacks, popular circa like 100 years ago

She was saying he wasn't experienced, the OP/Rush are claiming her choice of words is questionable.

I heard she said she could only endorse Obama if he won the primaries to a niggardly degree. ;)

ummm, who cares?!

This might be the only time you will EVER see me stick up for HRC, but I absolutely hate it when anyone gets grilled for obviously unintentional non-PC gaffs.

Obama himself better avoid any accusations of racism with a 10000 foot pole, or things could go badly for him real fast.

Oh boy, I really hope they let this one go...

I don't think that her choice of words was questionable at all. That would infer that there is a smidgen of chance that they were appropriate.

I don't think for a nanosecond that she meant anything other than he hasn't been digging the trenches to help win the war.....but it was a stupid choice of words simply because most people wouldn't even understand her let alone not take that as a slur.

I dunno, where I'm from in Vermont, a spade is a small shovel used in gardening.

I have never heard this word being used as an epithet toward blacks.

1. we don't have the context, which probably helps. For all we know she said "He doesn't have the experience. He hasn't done the spadework to be president. I've got 35 years blah blah blah." I think people can figure out what it means if that's how it came out.

2. Rush is really not calling her a racist, he's simply addressing the perceived double standard that would in all likelihood be applied if a republican said the same thing. To which I say 1) it's entirely possible that would happen, and 2) having your 6 leading candidates for president be all a bunch old affluent white guys doesn't help the diversity image nor does refusing to attend black sponsored debates and 3) anyone who really thinks any of the politicians in our current crop of nominees is a racist is an idiot

Mormon vs Protestant vs whatever isn't diversity. Exhibit A: "Black people don't hate Jews. Black people hate white people. We don't have time to dice white people up into little groups. I hate everybody." -Chris Rock

US begins spadework for Clinton visit
Arati R Jerath
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW DELHI, SEPT 28: The United States has quietly begun the spadework for President Bill Clinton's proposed visit to the subcontinent early next year by sounding out the Indian establishment on a viable solution to the Kashmir problem which would include a package of risk reduction measures on the nuclear front.
The assessment exercise is being carried out by Michael Krepon, president of leading US think tank Stimson Centre, who is currently in New Delhi for a series of meetings with security and defence experts.

spadework (spad'wurk')

n.
  1. Work requiring a spade.
  2. Preparatory work necessary for a project or an activity.

spade (spad)

n.
  1. A sturdy digging tool having a thick handle and a heavy, flat blade that can be pressed into the ground with the foot.
  2. Any of various similar digging or cutting tools.
tr.v., spad·ed, spad·ing, spades.

To dig or cut with a spade.

[Middle English, from Old English spadu.]

There are plenty of good reasons not to support Hillary, but only scum sucking turds like Rush would scrape the sewer to read such malicious intent in her statement.

After all, its hard to tell what his drug addled brain will come up with.

Too bad the OP didn't original attribute these remarks to one of the Repub candidates. I've no doubt the above responses would have been significantly different.

I have no doubt your response would have been identical to some of those you are calling out.

Please don't think you aren't a partisan, because your words on this forum show otherwise.

I grew up knowing spade was another derogatory term for black...

Probably not as common of usage today, and I really doubt that was the meaning HRC was using. I gotta think she and her people are a bit smarter than that...Plus, as already mentioned, spade is more properly, a small shovel.

Growing up, I also didn't know epithets like beloved patriot, beloved patriot, beautiful ray of sunshine, etc. etc.

Perhaps it reflects the morals that my family taught me...or perhaps it's because in Vermont, like 99% of people are white.
