did Giambi hurt the Yankees??

Giambi had a great season last year after he got used to being in NY and he's been hurt all year this year. Seeing as he DH's most of the time now and Nick Johnson is in the field, I don't see how he is hurting the team since his bat is still potent.

They still have won the division the last two years so I don't think the classifies as "haven't gotten anywhere" 🙂 although I know what you mean since anything less than a championship for the Yankees is considered a bad year.

He's one of the best hitters in the AL. He put up great numbers this year even after getting off to a slow start.

He's definitely not hurting the Yankees.

He did fine last night and he was amazing in the previous times he played in the postseason, which was in about 50 at bats.

And Giambi is a great hitter. He doesn't hurt the Yankees.

I disagree. He put up good numbers, but not great. His BA was only .250! Yep he still had 40+ dingers... 41 i think, and respectable RBIs but he was hardly ever on base. Put him in the #3 or #5 slot and his numbers would be even lower. Compared to other years, his numbers were mediocre.

I don't think the Yankees should trade though. He did have staff infections in BOTH eyes during the spring, and I think that bothered him a lot. He will probably bounce back and have a great year next year.

Who the hell cares what his batting average is if he puts up a .400+ OBP? Hardly ever on base? He had a .412 OBP. That's getting on base at a GREAT rate. Compared to his previous numbers he didn't do as great, but he was still great compared to the rest of the league.

Looking at his overall production, he looks like he was one of the top 5 or 10 batters in the league.

I still say good but not great. He definitly had an off year. His OBP is high, i guess i was talking out of my ass a bit, but Giambi was pressing all year in my opinion. He had a couple of long slumps that were horrible. He was hot as hell in the mid summer but was dead wood at the beginning and end of the year.

Depends on how you view Giambi. He is no more than a DH, not a good fielder,
So picking him up didn't hurt them, because they didn't have a power DH before
Giambi and they put Nick Johnson at 1B. While I would have kept a guy like Tino
over Giambi, he hasn't hurt them. He gives them the power they want from him.

Now if you want to talk about Mondesi, when they had him, he hurt them.

Well, he was 7th in the league in OPS (on-base plus slugging) which is viewed as one of the better stats for measuring overall offensive production. He easily led the league in walks and 107 RBI is nothing to sneeze at.

Granted, it was kind of an off year for him but most clubs would still have killed to have his bat in the lineup.
