Did Ebay seller cheat me on in-dash player?

OK, here's the story. I was looking for a good price on a JVC in-dash CD player to install in our new boat. I was looking for JVC because it would work with the existing wiring harness. I ended up winning this item, here

Now I know nothing about in-dash players, but this one appears to have a swapped faceplate and receiver. The receiver is a KD-S590KD-S590 as advertised in the auction. However the faceplate is for a KD-S5050. The only real difference I can tell is that the KD-S5050 does not have the blue backlight.

The seller does not mention this in the auction, and in fact they use a stock image of the blue-backlit KD-S590 as their main image. However, in the actual pictures it does show the faceplate I recieved, the KD-S5050. Of course I can only tell this because I now know what to look for.

Since I'm kind of an Ebay newb, I wanted to get some second opinions on this situation. Is this something to leave negative feedback for? In all honesty, the radio/CD player works fine, and not having the blue backlight doesn't bother me, but the way this was advertised doesn't seem right to me.

What are you talking about ??
The KDS590 is selling for $80+ not including shipping.
He got his for $35 + 15 shipping.

If it works fine, I'd say forget about it since it was fairly cheap.
Just make sure you email him and let him know so if something does go wrong, you already warned him about it.

Most of the time, if you give someone a NEG, they'll just make up something and give you a NEG also.

since he states there is a blue backlight and he clearly didn't ship it with one it is his fault however if it does not bother you leave it be but be sure to notify the selelr and mention in the feedback that the item did NOT match the description.
if you do have a problem with this notify the seller and see if you can send it back and get a refund it should be in yoru right to sine item did not match descripton. keep in mind the seller may be unaware of the difference and none of this was intentional

EDIT: I'm no car audio expert, but I thought you couldn't interchange faces like that as a theft-control measure.

I didn't think you could swap faces either, but here I am. I actually did contact the seller about this discrepancy. When I first saw the model number on the faceplate, I told him he sent me a KD-S5050 instead of the 590. He sent me a one line reply to go a check the model number of the receiver. That's when I found out the two were different.

He specifically states "Blue Backlight"....get a gold of him, maybe he put the wrong faceplate in the box......check to see if he has another auction with the non-blue baclicklight. Either an honest mistake, or the deck is hot.

Eh, could have been a legitimate mistake, he probably never powered it up and didn't realize the faceplate model would make a difference... although certainly the more appropriate thing would have been to mention in the ad that the faceplate and unit didn't match.. probably more like "hmm well if I don't say anything, no one will notice anyway and it looks the same so what's the difference?" kind of situation

As stated before....if it works and it's only the faceplate, no worries. I ended up paying $120 for my boat receiver because I actually got a marine player. You're doing great if you got yours for $50 shipped.

As for the backlit appearance, I honestly think the faceplate you got looks nicer than the blue one. Plus, it's in your boat. How often are you really in your boat? Mine sits in my driveway most of the year. 😛
